Frugal Frump to Fab - 2015

maman I bought some cuticle oil from superdrug for £3-4. It comes in a tube with a paint brush. It may not be very MSE, but it's handy to have in my make-up bag, as I normally do it during my work commute. You've just reminded me that I need to buy another one.
I did this and when it ran out I topped up the bottle with almond oil. Any oil works well, but I do like the handy brush. Coconut oil is also really good but is solid at room temperature. Could be a positive or negative depending on how you want to use it/store it.No more goo hoarding!

Morning All
It's absolutely horrid weather here today - pouring it down. I was supposed to be going for a long run but it wasn't suitable to go out. So as I had a spare couple of hours I hadn't planned for I had a wardrobe sort out.
I had a try on on of lots of trousers/jeans and a few tops I'd put away last year as being too small or for summer. I'd decided to get rid of stuff if it didn't fit me by my birthday. Most of the too small garments now fasten even if a little snug so I have decided to keep them until my 10K and have another try on. I have quite a few pairs of summer cropped trousers and a couple of tops to add to my wardrobe now so had a pressing and ironing session with them and they are all now ready to hang. I also fished out a pair of size 8 Per Una jeans that fit so will start wearing those too.
I had a lovely week last week and despite ending up eating out on 4 separate occasions for my birthday with different groups of friends and family I have managed to not put any weight on. My son and daughter clubbed together to buy me a running watch which measures distance and counts steps etc. On my birthday I did over 16,000 steps and the day after over 22,000 steps! I shan't wear it all the time in future just for exercise but was interested to see what I did over a day.
DH and I went for a walk in the hills on my birthday and then out for a late lunch which was lovely. Then just after I'd gone to bed the door opened, DH announced 'Here's another birthday treat' and my daughter walked in! She'd come up from London specially as a surprise. DS was in on it and came round too so we sat up till past midnight chatting and she was able to spend most of Saturday with me. We had breakfast out with DS and then the whole family, including my Mother and DGD, all went out to a fish and chip restaurant for tea before I had to go to work. DS had arranged for me to start at 7 rather than 5 so I had more time. So all in all a perfectly lovely time.
I have an extra session at work this afternoon as well as this evening but will get to come home for a couple of hours. I'm wearing smart black jeans with a cream Laura Ashley scoop neck top with elbow length sleeves- one of the ones that had been packed away. I've teamed it with a blue pendant on a chain and blue antique earrings, and will wear black ankle boots when I go out.
Hope everyone has a good day - and week.

Good Afternoon Fabbers
Sorry I have been MIA for a few months! Just so busy with Wedding planning, work (redundancy date looming very soon) and general lifeI have been keeping on top of my daily general fabbing though, keeping up with running and bootcamp. Healthy eating has taken a bit of a hitting now and again but I do know about it as my eczema has been playing up so I really do need to reign it back.
Need to go and have a bit of a skim through what I have missed.
Hugs all round xChristmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Sorry to hear that. Have a hug and a good night's sleep. New day tomorrow.:)0 -
Hope you feel a bit brighter today LL.:)
Thanks for the tip about the cuticle oil chanie and pq. I like the idea of applying with a brush so I'll certainly get some when what I have runs out. Current one is a squeezy tube so hard to apply just where needed and wasteful. My nails are certainly looking better for a bit of pampering and although I always use handcream I've been even more generous with that too. Another thing that seems to be helping is that I've filed my nails back into the rounded shape I always used to have. recently I had them cut square and while it may be a bit modern looking, I think the straight sides were more vulnerable.
Glad you had a good birthday rose and great news about getting into the 'too small' clothes, very mse.:money:
Good to see you back newthrift. I seem to be constantly reining in on the healthy eating!;) I'm fortunate in that I eat out quite a lot and I find it's far from easy to make healthy choices in many pubs and restaurants plus there's always the empty calories in alcohol to factor in. What I do is eat super healthy on the days that I can and also breakfasts and other meals I can control so it's just a series of one-off meals that fall into 'treat' category. I think problems arise when you start thinking 'Oh I've blown it now, might as well give up'.
I'm delighted how I'm keeping up with my foot fabbing too. I'm being really good with foot cream and although I give them a cursory file before my shower there really isn't any hard skin.:)
Used up another shower gel today so getting there slowly. All the products are down to me chanie. Thinking about it, there are very few things DH and I both use, we even like different soap and toothpaste! So I can't blame him for too many lotions and potions. but there are very few things I can bring myself to throw out which is why I'm trying to use things up.
Quite bright and a bit blowy here today but feels really cold. Roll on summer!!0 -
Thanks Maman. Don't know why ive been struggling a bit recently, but hey ho, I guess it just happens. No one ever said bereavement was going to be easy.
I am feeling brighter today though. I had a nice day out with a friend. we went to the MacArthur Glen shopping outlet, started with morning coffee and cake, some light retail therapy, lunch, a bit more shopping......
I went out with the intention of buying some much needed tops. Bought a lovely evening dress, a sort of mid bluey/grey with rhinestones at the shoulders and a stunning back view with ruched fabric all down the back seam. Don't know when I will have an occasion to wear it, but it is such a lovely dress and at £30 in the sale it was too good to miss.
I know it sounds mad to buy a full length proper evening dress when there is no occasion on the horizon, but it will keep until I need it.
I often find that my best buys are bought that way. If I have to buy something because I have a "do" or special occasion I often end up panic buying, paying over the odds for something that I don't particularly like and end up wearing only once, so,there is method in my madness.
I also bought some new make up, some pretty storage boxes for my bedroom, a new bra and some little gifts for my boys upcoming birthdays. so all in all quite a good haul and without spending a small fortune.
Didn't buy any new tops though.:rotfl:
Happy Belated Birthday Rose, glad you had a lovely time.
Despite my low mood, I had a lovely weekend with my boys. On Saturday DS1 held a BBQ for his work colleagues to celebrate his engagement and it was a lovely evening, it's always nice to meet the children's friends and finally be able to put faces to names, so that when they chatter about their mates Imcan picture the person.
On Sunday the two boys went to pick up a dishwasher that a colleague had donated to DS1 so the lovely M and I spent a happy hour or so looking at pictures of wedding dresses and discussing wedding plans. Then DS cooked us a delicious late lunch. So nice now that the boys are able to cook for me for a change.:D
And .....
some news on the house search......
I have put an offer in for an apartment in the riverside complex I like, just waiting to hear. There's stiff competition so I'm not holding my breath.0 -
Hello everyone,
I haven't been here for ages, but I am still working on myself, although the weightloss has stopped for now. I am off to get my hair cut soon, it is gradually turning from very short to a short bob.0 -
Nice bright sunny day, washing on the line, have flung all the windows open, loaded the car ready for tip tomorrow. Just waiting for the builder to come.
I'm just going to have some lunch and then tackle the last box of my parents paperwork. I shall be soooooo glad when that is out of the way, it's really been hanging over me. Hopefully all I have to do now is get dad to transfer their joint bank accounts Into his name only and then it's just the normal routine stuff from then on.
Although of course I can see the day coming when we are going to have to activate his POA.
I'm not looking forward to that conversation..
Fabwise, well yesterday I got the girl in the Body Shop to demonstrate how to apply eyebrow powder. Ii have very sparse brows and have resorted to pencil up until now but as my brows get more and more sparse it's getting harder to achieve a nice soft natural look with pencil. I really like the effect with powder so I bought some, also a much nicer colour bronzer. I just need some new mascara now and that's me done for summer.
I had a couple of nice compliments yesterday, saying I was looking slimmer. I haven't lost any weight but it seems I'm losing inches, so feeling quite chuffed.
Right enough procrastination, lunch and then that blasted box of papers.0 -
Glad to see you back, Eiffel. Sounds like you are going well. Enjoy getting your hair done.0
