Not sure of Make Poss. Seagate. Picked mine up today. Not Noisy but runs hot.
XP found it but used Partition Magic 8 for partition. No probs - all seems OK.

    Thanks to WEESAX for mention.

I got mine today, the Aldi one. It looks very good build, has seperate power supply, 2 usb ports at front and two car reader slots. At the back there is a on/off power switch. Just plugged it into pc usb 2 and plug power supply and bombs you way. Its already formatted for fat32, prefer NTFS. Seems pretty fast, quite surprised.

If it's not too late for you, when I used the partition Magic I formatted it in NTFS then partitioned it.

    hi,

why do people partition a drive?
what free software is out there to partition a hard drive?
will the partition be read both by windows and apple osx?
by using the hdd on both windows and osx should i use fat32?
any other precautions as i do not want to lose data?

i am looking to pick up the aldi hdd on friday. is it a good buy for mass storage?

    thanks,

I partition drives for good housekeeping, keeping perssonnel data on one, games on another etc etc. I prefer ntfs to fat32 as ntfs can read files above 4gb. As I do quite a lot of video editing, fiels can be over 4gb for a dvd.

Another reaosn is that I have winxp on a partition so I can back up on the dvdr rather than do a whole 160gb.

    hi,

isnt ntfs an xp thing? i need to use drive for both xp and osx.

will i be ok with fat32?

what happens when i rip a mini dv tape from camcorder 11gb for 60 mins of footage?

    thanks,

NTFS original came from NT then win2000. Winxp is an updated version of win2000 with more bells and whisels.

If you rip a mini dv that is 11gb is size I would of thought if its fat32 it would split the files up. I wouldnt recommend even on a ntfs a 11gb file size to edit. I normally split fiels sizes down and edit and rejoin them back together, and burn to dvd
