    i have one also.

i can confirm it works with Mac OS 10.3.9. Mine also works with XP SP2 prefectly.

Mostly happy expect for few minor things. :j

    1) It is meant to be 250gb, but when i connect up, both systems say 232gb available..So where did the other 18gb go??????

    2) I thought having two usb at the front would allow you to connect the HD to other computers. Bcoz i was planning to connect to mac and xp at the same time. But i have since found out that i can out. :(

Is there any way i can have both systems connected at the same time? Without having to keep unplugging the usb between systems?

The usbs on the front only allow input devices i.e.digital cameras. Which sucks!!!!

Apart from those two things im happyish. Would be happier if some1 found a way to connect to systems.

    Kool, Thx

You loose a certain amount of gb on formatting. This is a well known issue.

I use a program called syncbackSE to backup data from drives to portable drive.

I think the 2 usb are totally separate from the unit, hence why they wont work. When the drive is switch off, the usb still work providing you use low current devices, like all internal usb's.

External drive is well built and worth the money if you ask me. You can always upgrade to a bigger HD at a later stage, the instructions are well laid out.

    hi,

i bought the aldi hdd. its my first mass storage device. i will use it for both windows xp and mac osx.

    what precuations should i take?
can i simply plug and use in both for storing/calling data?
will my files be readable for both operating systems?
what happens when i want to do a system backup from xp and mac osx?
should i partition? will both os read it? how big should they be? on which system should i use it first?
files names and file sizes a problem?
anything else i should be aware of?

    thanks,

    Hi,

Any idea's what sort of a warranty is supplied with the 250Gb USB External Hard Disk Drive?, and, what memory cards does it read (think this does have a memory card reader)?.

Thank you in advance for any help.
    Best Regards.

    hi,

    i am having doubts :(
i am now thinking i should have got a firewire as i use a mac on regular basis. i could transer video etc at a better constant rate. i could also have booted the os of the hdd.

i have seen a 500gb hdd for £211 from dabs delivered.

2 * aldi = £200 so the dabs one (formac) sounds good value.

    its firewire 400/800.

should i return the aldi due it being usb2?

    also savestore/scan do icy box fw/usb with 250gb seagate/hitachi for £118 delivered.

    thanks,
  • anyone beside snoop85 got this thing to work on a mac I have os10.2.8 it says in the destructions os 10 and above. might try booting in os9 to see if it comes to life. makattak sounds like you have it working what os are you on? mine if i dont get any joy from the helpline on monday is almost certainly going back to aldi !

    hi matty66,

i haven't opened it yet as i am having doubts of getting just usb2 :(

    i have seen a fw/usb2 for £118 and a 500gb fw for £211 which sound appealing now.

    not sure what to do.

    thanks,

Just been into Aldi Scarborough. They have one still for sale. I went in for some bicycle drink containers, but they were all sold out :(

Bought this on saturday and have not got it to install on my laptop yet!!
The card reader works a treat, but the hdd itself will not install.I am running Xp pro and have sp1 on because the lappy does not seem to like sp2 for some reasons??It seems to jerk and judder and just does not perform as it should.
As for plug and play, well i can plug, but there is no playin! It will not recognise in the usb ports. In fact its says unknown device and will not go any further from there not matter what i do.
    Has anybody got any ideas???
