Does it make any physical noises - fans, disc drives, anything?
Do you get anything on screen at all?0 -
Sounds very much like PSU failure. Cant be certain though without further details as asked for above.0

Try turning it off at the MAINS for 30 minutes then switch it back on and try again.
I have had PSUs/motherboard lock and not start after a brief blip on the mains, some PSUs whilst technically off are not totally off.0 -
Does the screen ever come on, or is it always in standby mode ?
do you hear any beep ??
have you heard beeps in the past when it worked, specifically, did it used to beep once after turning it on ?
If not, then you may not have an internal speak attached, which can be useful for determining boot problems.
may sound silly, but first check to make sure the monitor is plugged into correctly.
it sounds like the power is coming on but the motherboard wont post0 -
A dead BIOS battery maybe? - happened to me once. Is it an old computer?
A failure of one of the PSU rails, loose power connector - or a failed boot HDD are also possibilities.0 -
How old is your monitor ? Have you got a spare monitor to try ? How long do you leave the PC on after the light has come on.
The reason I ask is that I had a monitor that took 10-15 mins to come on when started from cold. Once it was on it was fine all day.0 -
Hi thanks for your replies. No it's only about 2 to 3 years old . It's a Dell Inspiron and it's used with a tv as a monitor. Usually it doesn t take long at all to come on. There s power to it because it lights up but not much else happens and the screen stays black.0

Have you tried it unplugged from the monitor? Service Tag on the underside?0
