Pc won't start

So your router can see your PC when its on did you say? Like its loaded.
I think its the gfx. No beeps, lights are on, fans are spinning. The mobo would beep if the CPU was dead surely?
If it was overheating then the PC would usually shutdown as a safety precaution.
I say open the case up and see whats inside.0 -
Why thank you squire lol like the name. So it's safe for me to unscrew it then is it as I'm a novice at repairing pc s.
It might be better if someone used to PC's cleaned it. If there is no-one else to do it then be very careful since things sometimes break easily.
If you are game then a clean new soft paint brush and a carefully applied vacuum cleaner nozzle can work wonders but I think that it would be better if someone capable of removing and replacing the fan and heatsink attempted this. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0 -
We aren't even sure that the PC is not starting up. It's all a bit vague.
A better description of the 'noise' would be helpful.0 -
The standard machine has builtin Intel graphics, hence my question as to whether it's got an add-on card.So your router can see your PC when its on did you say? Like its loaded.

I know, we're all just throwing guesses around. For all we know the PC might be booting up normally and the TV lead is loose/broke.
At this point I would recommend that the OP asks a computer literate relative to pop around and take a look (and bring a spare monitor/cable with them whilst they're at it) before risking opening it up and messing around with it. They can at the least give the OP the right information to bring back to the thread.
If my mum (who hasnt got a clue about computers) rang me and said the same things the OP has, the last thing I'd be doing is advising her to open to the PC.0 -
Thank you all. I've tried describing the noise but it's not easy. It's not a whirring noise just a noise lol. Presumably the first noise that's heard when a pc s switched on. Anyway no worries we ve ordered another base unit and I ll try and find someone to have a look at it after Christmas.0

A healthy hard disk makes a noise like some happy little crickets chittering in the grass, which should coincide with a hard disk flashing light (if the computer has one).
A faulty one makes little clunking sounds and maybe graunching sounds, or even little squeals!
A dead one makes no sounds.0 -
Out of interest, do you get keyboard lights during this time? ie numlock, capslock?0
