The Data Protection Act doesn't apply to domestic properties unless you're running a business from home.
The DPA has exemptions for personal collection and use of data. It's unlikely that a neighbourhood watch scheme (whether affiliated and registered with the local Police or a self-managing group) would be eligible for that exemption.
If the neighbourhood watch scheme isn't registered with ICO as a data controller then a complaint can be made to ICO. Also if the CCTV footage is being collected for the purposes of detection/prosecution of crime, but the system 'resets' or loses data at (in)appropriate times, then the system is not fit for its declared purpose, which may mean that the data is being collected or processed illegally.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Would just like to add you are free completely to film using a personal device. As long as you are positioned on your own property or public property.
You can film private property in this instance. But doing so continuously could amount to harrasment0 -

IMO it's not beyond the realms of possibility that this guy could be abusive to OP to try to untimidate him and deter him from reporting their illegal activity.
It can be reported anonymously however

OP Just wanted to check in and see how things where. Really can not imagine living so close to someone like that. I have amazing next door neighbours and I suppose like most of us we take them for granted.
Honestly don't start anything but just make sure that you have back up plans just in case. For warned is for armed etc.
There are lots of really nice people in the world so straight after xmas move. You can not change everyone and if things like this continue it will start to affect you. Small things at first but then perhaps bigger. You must already be on edge and looking over your shoulder, god I know I would be.
Moving would not be bowing out or pandering to idiots like him instead you move on your terms. You have already shown that you can stand up to him but silly angry people do silly nasty things. Is it really worth it, putting you and your partner through it.
Again I stress you would not be giving in just moving away from s***bags. Police, camera's all the hassle that comes with it. Sometimes it takes more guts to walk away.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

I was also told on a previous occasion that if the police went to their door and they said that I had started the altercation (another attempted assault on me), Id be charged with breach of the peace.
Sometimes the service you get from station to station and officer to officer will vary widely.
Unfortunately in a lot of cases nothing can be done until someone is harmed and even then, you don't always get the response you are looking for or need.
It's not a neighbour dispute as the threats were made on public highway and become, he used a term I forget and clarified that it is classed as a crime against the state or queen or something. He was very clear about this, that it was not to be classed as a neighbour dispute as there'd been threats of violence, assault on property and homophobic abuse.
I guess with the level of crime in the town, they've got a policy of putting people in cells for 24 hours for rising threat like this, if it gets to the point of legitimate physical threat. I was shown the incident log that said in a footnote that an arrest and detainment must be applied in the event of an emergency call.
And yes, everyone, my car was locked. I don't know if he'd forced the window or something, possibly, to get inside.
My tenancy doesn't end until march, and I'll have to scrape together some deposit for a new tenancy, but I fully intend to do, but it feels like such a lomg time..... plus I might just end up next to another nutter.I can't add up.0 -

My point was, my issue wasnt a neighbour dispute either, I was being harassed and threatened, but it was treated as one. The level of service Ive had has varied massively from officer to officer. Having witnesses makes a big difference.
Ive had anti social neighbours for the last 10 years or so and there's another situation ongoing at the moment which is going to mean a court appearance for me shortly as a witness.
Not looking forward to that, but its going to have to be done. Moving might end up with you being next to someone same or worse, you can't call it.
Or you might be lucky and get decent neighbours.0 -

Sometimes the police do something - an 80 yr old pensioner got jailed for 18 months earlier this month.

Interesting abt the public highway bc I was called a fcking pervert and so forth in front of witnesses entirely unprovoked and police didn't do anything abt it.
Re: moving - there's no guarantee if you move anywhere else that you'll get nice neighbours. Or you'll get nice neighbors then maybe they'll move to get a bigger flat/house,to be nearer relies etc and the new neighbours might turn out to be awful. This happened to me.
When you're renting it is easier to move, but if you buy it's far more difficult. Going back in the closet is an option if you're single but why the heck should you. The problem is with other people.
When two men live together, even if they don't interact with neighbours at all, the rumours can start rumours which escalate into homophobia.
I still say push the police to tell you why removing the car door wasn't criminal damage.
The other thing would be, to ask why, when there's CCTV there's no evidence of this crime - what's all this reset rubbish anyway, my CCTV system just records continuously. When it fills up the 1TB memory it just records over the top.
Also find out from Neighbourhood Watch if the scheme is verified by them or the police - it might be listed on ourwatch.org.uk if you put in postcode. Maybe you can ask the police to request that this 'Neighbourhood Watch' is verified if it isn't - and it's likely that criminals wouldn't want to do that, bc then they may have to explain odd CCTV behaviour if asked by police. Have you ever seen any NW leaflets etc ?
Neighbours setting themselves up as an unofficial NW scheme could be seen potentially as harassment ie neighbours are watched but no liaison with police or NW, no information.0
