A taxpayer is someone who pays tax (regardless of what type of taxes they are). The clue is in the word!
Is that so difficult for people on here to understand?

I think what people are getting at/trying to say, is that paying tax from income you've earned is different from paying tax with other peoples money.

Of course it is. I'd much rather spend more of my money and pay more tax, then give it to someone else for them to spend it on unecessary things (car, alcohol) and for them to pay tax.

    This doesn;t make any sense.
You either spend more of your money or pay more tax. You don;t do both. And since when have I said you should give your money to semone else for them to spend it on "undesirable" things.
What has this response got to do with the thread anyway?

And how do you judge what is unnecessary spending? Your unnecessary spending may be someone else's vital spending. Who are you to judge?
  • I feel sorry for the op a little bit on this one. We all(most) of us pay into a system that we may need to help us when day. When that time comes I hope that they do pay out and the correct amount. Knowing government departments the op has probably had a hell of a time just trying to communicate and get them to admit their mistake, so maybe wants some come uppance/justice.
What I find amazing is that our government (conservative or labor) give benefits to untold thousands who have hardly paid in and yet when a sick man has to give up work to care for his wife he seems a perfectly acceptable target on here.

thank you JUSTLOOKING..........after going through countless bank statements, bills etc etc

i have found out that im out of pocket alot more than expected. also wanted to ask and try to ignore everything regarding tax payers, the special payments department have told to to put any loses down on paper and they will pay these back, but they have also mentioned giving me a consolitary payment and have asked me to come up with a figure of what i would like and they will consider it.

i have tried going about this by looking at other stories regarding this and i have only found 2 1st a woman who went to court and got £100000 for a mistake with her husband pension ( over 10 yr period) 2nd was a guy who IS payments were messed and didnt recieve any payment for 3 months he was awarded £400 plus the benefit back dated.

    so what do i do?

Figure out your alleged loses and let them know the figure or be greedy and ask for stupid figure.

Looks like they have asked you to do this but you seem unsure what to do.

Maybe they should ask for compensation from you for wasting their time after they have told you what to do and what they are prepared pay.

We all,one way or another, pay tax. Tax on goods and services is paid by all, working or not.

I have worked for donkeys years, then claimed contributory disability benefits, and then a couple of pensions, and have always paid income tax on income, savings etc., simply because tax is paid on income/savings for everyone, working or not.

Many working people pay tax, but then get it all back in top up benefits/tax credits, so they are contributing no more than someone unemployed.

We all, one way or another, foot the bill for any compensation paid, whether it's from shops, utilities, the NNS, the DWP, the Tax Office, any other government department, or the banks, because we are all customers and/or taxpayers, who pay them one way or another.

That's how they pay the fines and compensation, as it comes from the department or company funds, not an individual...

And, this site encourages people to claim back money from various organisations!

    Lin ;)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Many of the "Benefits Bashers" on here seem to forget or not realise that many of them claim Benefits themselves, such as Child Benefit, Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits, Housing Benefit, Pensions and of course NHS services such as their GP or Hospital visits etc.
