Had a brief chat with our Finance man at work earlier, not a "chat" chat just an in passing exchange - apparently noone believes I've really done the hours I have without complaining to my line manager.

Which is somewhat surprising since I've been asking for extra help - be it additional staff on the books or more thought when booking meetings on busy days - since November.

They are also a little surprised to find out that I've got the equivalent of two weeks working hours banked as lieu time (as of last week, there will be more hours added at the end of this week....) but he did ask if I wouldn't prefer to be paid for it. As I've always been told lieu time will only be turned in to paid overtime in very exceptional circumstances I'm wondering if I should be pushing now for it to be paid or leave it as lieu so I can use it when they'd rather I didn't take time off for swimming events.

Made a decision this evening and have changed the DD for my main credit card debt to my main bank account so that any extra earnings are going to go back to helping to reduce it instead of paying the minimum payments and treading water with it.

    What prompted that?

Hopefully I'll be less likely to reach for the card to pay for things knowing its coming out of my main account too (I don't use it often but when I do I need to consider it more first!).

You going to make overpayments too?

And now you've discovered that talking to your manager is like talking to your own arrse... :rotfl:

Welcome to the real world. ;)

Or you could do half and half. However, if they don't want you to take time off, the fact it's time in lieu will make little difference.

I'd been meaning to change it over for a while but with having to move I'd kept putting it off. The overpayments will come from the bank account I just moved it from as I can make them by paying with a debit card.

Whats actually worse is that apparently it was a topic in staff Prayers this afternoon. Not quite sure how that will have gone.

Please God can we stop taking advantage of the fact that scuba actually gives a toss about our guests and keeps working herself half to death to keep them happy because our management structure can't deal with concepts like taking on temporary contract staff while our permanent staff are on long term sick leave. Amen.

Oh its not that they don't want me to take it off, they just dont want to give me the staff to cover the needs of the business so that I can actually just work my contracted hours - which would mean two lovely days off a week rather than one day off if I'm lucky and don't mind doing a couple of double shifts a week so that we have all the bookings covered to achieve it.

Please be aware much of this post is likely coloured by my feeling extremely tired, and frustrated and in need of chocolate but have none in the house.

Edit to add, swagbucks paypal has landed and already been moved in to my bank account.

Yes, but my point was that you trying to take time in lieu and you trying to take actual holiday are going to be met with similar shade of brown trousers.

Oh I'll get the time off, one day, hopefully when the sick staff member gets back I'll be able to actually just work my hours, and start taking down the time owed and even book some holiday......

Yeah it has done a bit today - the implication that I've not made enough effort to find people to cover shifts when you've spent 4 days trying to get hold of casual staff around actually dealing with guests will cause some annoyance.

I've almost finished off the audit merchandising forms so once I've got that emailed I'll go dry my hair and take a book to bed. Got a store to visit tomorrow morning before work, torn between the more local one or one further away that'll be a bit of a pain to visit over the weekend.

Yup, given the one further away is a revisit as I got home from doing it yesterday and realised I'd not taken the required photos for proof of visit....muchly annoyed with myself over that one. But does mean I can take my camera instead of trying to get the pics on my phone which is a pain.

I'm thinking the further one tomorrow it'll mean an earlier start but the more local one will be much easier to fit in between my run and swim on Sunday as it's at least the same town as the pool I'm doing the swim in.

I won't sleep if I've been staring at a screen, even reading on the kindle I find it harder to sleep than if I have a tree book - even when I'm reading the same book on paper and screen.

The fact that I had to call two local temp agencies this afternoon who also happen to do permanent recruitment and I may have had a look at their job boards whilst I was looking up the contact details. Nothing interesting listed but it's somewhat reassuring to know that my salary is pretty typical for the type of work.

    Sport Relief 2016 done.

So much relief over that! 3 mile run in 38 mins which given the hills, and track ranged from sandy to loose gravel I'm pleased with that.
2.5km swim (25m pool) 1.03.45 reasonably quiet lane, three of us two doing the 1.5km of which one was quite slow but kept stopping to let me and the other pass and the other who was annoyingly swimming at a fraction less than my pace and even when I caught up and was tapping their foot wouldn't stop to let me pass so I mostly took a few seconds of a breather as there wasn't quite enough space to overtake most laps. Not sure overtaking would have increased my speed much though as I'm likely to have just tired myself out. The last 40 lengths on my own were relatively dull.

Do you think you will suffer for it? I know you were saying you hadn't been able to do much training.

Yep - some people are like that. I mostly encounter them while driving. A bit poor to be like that during a charity event though.

    I'm suffering today.

Arms, legs and core muscles are all protesting at the cruel way I forced them to work hard yesterday.

The other two people in my lane were only doing 1.5km, so that was only 60 lengths to my 100, same with the people in the lanes either side of me, there were a couple of other 2.5km swimmers and a 5km swimmer in the far lane but they were very fast which is why I'd not joined their lane, and the lane nearest to them one over from mine had 5 swimmers in it so I thought it'd be a bit crowded if I joined them at the start.

The challenge now is to make sure I out swim my sister in the open water events we're both doing later in the year - she also did 2.5km about 30 seconds slower than my time.
