Can't believe it. Done all this checking online and recent messages above, and then I thought I ought to check settings again. There it is waiting!!0

Yeah - got home tonight and it's sitting waiting my wife's Nexus.
Going to do a proper backup and then a factory restore/install.0 -
Sounds like a good idea. Updated mine and so far I'm underwhelmed. It's very slow and already the original email app has locked up. Meaning I've had to load a new one to ensure continuity of my emails. Also nothing on the look and feel leaves me over enthusiastic. Will give it time and a second Chance 2morrow0

Just allowing the standard update doesn't make it "fresh"... doing a factory restore does this. (Which is why you need to do a backup ... this process wipes the device).0

Can't believe I stupidly did this again.
after the 5.0 update trashed my nexus and let me to restore it back to kit Kat I thought maybe 5.02 would have fixed the bugs.
my games now work but there aren't enough hours in the day to wait for anything to load.
a full wipe and factory restore including numerous reboots have not helped.
It feels like the 2012 mexus simply isn't powerful enough to run 5.02.
When games have loaded they are fine.
scrolling web pages is so jerky it gives me a headache.
back to kit Kat I go again.0 -
Nexus 7 2012 updated to 5.02 and running quite acceptably.0

Stupid question...... The one and only thing that stops me doing a factory reset is ensuring that ALL data is backed up. Hence the stupid question, is there a list somewhere of all the areas that have to be considered? The obvious are photos, music and mydocuments. Is there anywhere else obvious? Can apps be easily recreated? I told you it was stupid!0

I'm a Microsoft/windows user for all my previous systems, so only just catching up with android. If I do a factory reload where does the operating system come from? Obviously used to holding the "discs" with windows.0

If you run Nexus Root Toolkit (don't be scared by the name) on your PC it'll let you make an Android Backup (.ab) file that'll save all your important app data (such as game saved points etc.). You need to enable developer mode though (go to About Tablet and click on Build number 7 times), and turn on USB Debugging
Then you can also view the tablet in Windows Explorer and copy across the pertinent folders, like Music, Pictures, DCIM, downloads, documents etc., and also folders named after any apps you may be using (e.g. Kindle).
The Andriod OS is stored on a separate memory partition, so when you do a restore it reloads the OS from that partition. The key thing about the restore is that it wipes the other partitions.0
