I don't know if other people have had it but I got an OTA update to 5.0.1 on my Nexus 4 overnight Tuesday/Wednesday. I don't know whether that is an indication that the new version will now start to be rolled out to those models that had it pulled - I haven't yet seen any sign of it for my 7.0

I have the nexus 7 (2012), but no update yet. The limited info I've read is that it was released then stopped, due to it slowing the device down.
As mine already has it's "slow moments" I'll not want it going any slower. I always like having the latest version but not at the expense of its usability.
Apparently the new version is 5.1 which allegedly is the improved (go faster) version of the original release.
The other rumour is there might be a difference between the 2012 and 2013 availability/impact.
But none of this is fact hence my reason for coming on here and asking the original question.
Will appreciate any updates/info readers might have.0 -
Just a bit of further on Cliddy's post - I've got a 2012 Nexus 7 and I did get the update before they withdrew it. It really did mine to (almost) a halt - you'd tap something, just menu items, and wait 5 or so seconds for it to do anything. Lots of options like flashing it back, lots of funky tricks to play around with the system, but I decided the fastest way was to do a factory reset - all your data and apps go, Android 5.0 stays, but then you sign in and all your apps and (MOST - please check!) of your data comes back. Far faster.0

I'm a bit confused about your saga. You say you received the update, had problems and reloaded etc. But still left version 5 on the system? Wasn't the point to get rid of version 5?
Was it 5.1 that was bad and you went back to 5?
Yours confused.0 -
No. Summary was as follows (to my mind):
He had Kitkat 4.4
He got the OTA update to 5.0 (which does not do a reset)
Nexus 7 ran like a dog
He did a factory reset
This wipes everything and reapplies the currently installed Android (5.0)
Doing the reset made things work better
The reality is that the data cache wipe part of the factory reset was probably what did the trick.0 -
OK, think I understand now. I assume that if people like me haven't received anything yet, just getting 5.1 is unlikely to resolve it. So something like 5.2 is awaited?
I also assume that any upgrade can't include a reset, as standard users like me won't want the hassle of securing/restoring data etc. So any release will have to get round the problem you mention another way.0 -
There isn't a 5.1 ... there's a 5.0.10

We don't know yet because as far as I'm aware 5.0.1 still hasn't been made available OTA for tablets, although it's possible that the techie whizzes have found an image to load themselves. It may do the trick, and it could just be that Google are waiting to see how it goes on other devices before pushing it out to a wider audience. As always with Android updates, wait and see is the best bet if you're not confident of trying an alternative.0 -
