January Grocery Challenge 2015

Hi cw18 have you tried looking at different supermarkets to see if the items you buy regularly are cheaper elsewhere? We've recently swapped supermarkets and by comparing what I've spent to what I would have have spent elsewhere using the mysupermarket website I know that I've got the best value for money. Today I've saved over £6 which on a £57 weekly shop has ensured I've stayed within my £60 budget.
I hope that makes sense. Best of luck20p Savers (£22.20/£100)

I get almost all my meat from Costc0 (generally cheaper per kg than elsewhere, and it not only has more flavour but doesn't shrink either), along with a lot of my tinned stuff (good quality chopped tinned toms for the same price as Mt T value) and my rice (at the end of last year I got a 22kg sack in one of their offers, so shouldn't need any more this year
)
Veg and milk comes from A!di, as does bread (if I'm not making), most frozen and some packet stuff
Everything else is mostly from Mr T, but I do check on-line before going as I can also get to Mr M (most local) and (subject to weather being reasonable) Mr A and Mr S. Lid! isn't local, but I often call in for a look if in the vicinity of a store
Once in a while I wander up to Icel@nd, but don't find them very inspiring as I rarely eat ready mealsCheryl0 -
A small 99p spend in Sainsb on milk and bread.
Proper grocery shop tomorrow. Which reminds me, I need to make a list.Because it's fun to have money!

Managed a £47.63 spend in Sainsbobs today but that did include enough evening meals for this week and next, a few things for the freezer, a stock up of toiletries on offer and dog food and laundry stuff that all seems to run out at the same time.
I should only need a bit of fresh stuff next week now.
Was very pleased with myself last night as I used up some quorn meatballs that have been in the freezer for about a year, some sorry looking veg, a tomato sauce from the back of the cupboard and some pasta and made a fairly nice tea (not inspiring for most but I don't cook!).
Also used up the bits in the fridge for a sandwich for lunch today rather than opening the newly bought stuff that seemed much more appetising.
Good for me...organisation and thinking ahead for food/meals is not my strong point because I really detest cooking and the kitchen in general...0 -
I've noticed a few people posting to say they've had to splash out on razor blades. Luckily my OH hasn't clean-shaved in years (he uses one of those trimmer things), so it's not a cost issue for us, but if you/hubby/sons use them, apparently they can be kept sharp for a very long time by running them over jeans after use. I do it with the razors I use on my legs and I can keep them going for ages, and they're only cheap disposables. I only really shave my legs for special occasions in winter anyway
Anyway, back on topic, I spent £4.99 on chocolate and cheese yesterday. I keep a separate chocolate budget because I like to keep track of what I spend on it (used to easily be £15 a week when I'd get 3 bars a day from the local shop ) so just adding the cheese to the GC. I made HM pizza last night and OH and the kids seemed impressed, and it was very easy.

Well it's all about not spending, spending well and being happy....I think.
Anyway I went out with friends today, very much against the grain because I didn't want to spend! I ended up spending £8.15 on a meal with them and £4 on parking because I didn't drive.....sigh
So that's £12.15 off my budget
But I did have a lovely day
Glad you had a lovely day, sorry to be nosey but how did parking cost £4 if you didnt drive?Slimming World at target0 -

If I can't be bothered to walk the 6 miles to the market and back I find that Iceland aren't too bad for their big packs of bacon or fruit. And, of course, frozen veg.
I prefer l!dl's fruit, but the quality in L!dl can be hit and miss (they leave old fruit out until it rots or gets sold).
The mature cheese from Iceland can also be okay for cooking. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I assumed they split the parking as here (in Cardiff) it can be £8+ for anything over an hour if you park at the wrong time of dayThat sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
