Does anyone know how to do those 'crispy potatoes' you can buy in the supermarkets, we love them but mine never turn out the same as the ones you can buy.

    Similar to other posters...
*Spuds in cold water. Bring to boil for 8 mins.
*Leave to "dry" off...shake in pan to "fluff" and add a tablespoon of semolina.
*Into hot oil for 40 mins = crispiest roast spuds ever.
(I used to just shake or shake and add salt but my sister always had amazing roasties and this is her trick...now we're never without a bag of semolina). :)
  • I'm back around! Lots to catch up on here...had MIL and FIL here since NYE and haven't really stopped. :)

Grocery spend is still at 0!! for January thanks to our freezer full of bargains. :T

We had a lovely beef joint that did 2 evening meals and a lunch for all of us this week, a pork joint for last week, a chicken that also made a carbonara...and a lovely meal out on them one night and today for lunch.

Will be tidying and doing laundry tomorrow and over the weekend...and generally fighting to keep our 2 little people happy without all of the extra visitors and cuddles! :rotfl:

Just popping in to log a spend of £6.42 from Tuesday which I had forgotten about until I went through my receipts just now. This brings me to £88.13 spent since 27 December. I have updated my signature accordingly.

I have done a larder and freezer audit, and am hopeful that I can avoid going over my budget between now and 31 January :)

Picked up chocolate, frozen veg, YS wraps, bananas, and a couple bottles of shampoo for £11.54. I'm up to £70.60 for the month, with lots of food still left around! I'm still spending a lot on non-food stuffs (toiletries, beverages, containers), but am on track regardless.

Hi all, Nsd for me today. Was tempted to order in takeaway earlier as it is Dh's birthday and I had a headache and didn't really want to be standing in the kitchen making the homemade burgers I'd planned, but I got on with it.
Will need to get milk tomorrow but otherwise should manage until monday!

  • Managed to get my "big" weekly shop done today. Really hate going on a weekend so pleased I went after work when I was childfree. Spent £6.51 at the local fruit and veg shop on loads of grapes, bananas, apples and 5 massive jacket potatoes (they are 5 for £1 and such a bargain for the size). Then onto tesco after work and spent £41.35. I seem to be running out of expensive stuff this week (razors the other day) so I had to buy washing powder, kitchen cleaner ect. Got enough milk to get me over the weekend and got the packed lunch stuff too, so hopefully a NS weekend (fingers crossed). Got YS bread and rolls (8p-10p) and that even includes some new drinking glasses (lots smashed over the last few weeks, don't know why).

Anyway, off to update total. Hope you all have a good weekend. Fingers crossed I don't have to pop to the shops for anything else!
