Skirt beef is the meat to use for Cornish pasties! Will also make a good stew.

Not started on January budget yet but will be going shopping tomorrow.

My January challenge started on the 27th December, but I haven't spent till today. Went to Lidls and spent £12.75 on routine things, including a big bag of potatoes. No amazing bargains were to be had, as the supermarkets round here only reduce items by a small amount as they approach their sell by date. I managed to get 25p off 1 litre of milk with tomorrow's date though, and 2 packs of premium sausages for £1.39 each instead of £1.99.

Anyway, I have enough for a few days now. Off to update my signature :)
  • I've been to a few shops today, picked up some YS sausages wrapped in bacon for £1.03 and YS bacon wrapped stuffing rolls for £0.50 which are in the freezer and are going to be cooked and served with my pheasant. The leftover pheasant will be going in a pie with some gammon. Yummy ^_^

Bit annoyed as my DD's junior soya milk was out of stock so I will have to go out again tomorrow which would have been an NSD. Oh well can't be helped.

    Total spend for today £17.72

  • Nothing spent to date, but I will need milk in the not too distant future.....;)

My challenge for 2015 is to stay out of the supermarkets but do it within my current budget- I want to get everything as locally and seasonally as possible (particularly fruit, veg and meat) and know that I am in the fortunate position of living in an area where these things are possible - it will be a challenge doing so within my budget and may mean eating a lot more 'sedately', but I think it will be worth it in the end!! :D

I have noticed that several posters are intending to avoid supermarkets in 2015. How will you manage this? I can easily get fruit, veg, eggs, meat etc from other sources (including my garden for some things) but what about flour, teabags, coffee, butter, loo rolls etc? Where are you guys intending to buy these?
  • Did a huge online shop which will get delivered tomorrow night. I will declare after delivered when I get final price, Huge washing powder, loo rolls and bag lentils included in it.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi
Catching up on a £1.60 spend yesterday for 6 eggs & some fresh donuts from sains. Then 30p today on some carrots that were half price & a lemon.
Should get another low spend day tommorow of just £1.50 for a block of cheddar, then Wednesday will need to go shopping again as the fridge is getting bare.
