Paid off another £220. I keep trying to encourage myself as soon as sales go through the account, saying "just chip away at it, keep chipping. It's coming down". But it is such a slow and tedious process.

I hope I survive all the way to the end of the year, and don't go out and splurge on something just to feel normal instead of in this perpetual penny pinching mode.

Everyone talks about these spreadsheets that they play around with all the time.... what does your spreadsheet involve? I have something basic but all of yours sound so much more fun :rotfl:

Mine is quite basic - it lists all of the incoming (wage & money from DH) and outgoings (all bills and debts payments and expenses I know about in advance e.g. nights out, presents, food shopping are all budgeted for) so I can see at a glance how much money I have every month to "play" with after everything is paid - I have a sheet per month and am all sorted til the end of 2015 :D I also have a sheet that is just where the debt currently stands so lists all of the places I owe money to and how much - then I play with that and it's like a crystal ball showing me where I could be in a month or two if I actually pay off what I'm supposed to be doing!

There's a few formulas in there so that I don't have to manually add up the totals of things, but otherwise it's really straight forward (ooh and I colour code the boxes so I can see what has been paid and what still needs to be paid for that month - green is paid and yellow is pending from my bank account!)

I enjoy my spreadsheet a little too much I think...:o

I think this is the absolute hardest part of the year - you've worked out how much you owe in total and had the  holy hell how did it get to be that much moment - but as it's just after Christmas, generally speaking there is less available money than at any other time of the year! It's already been 3 and a half weeks since payday for me and there's another 15 days to go :( Just get through January as best you can then you've got the nice easy short month of February to survive then you get into a routine and things start to become easier.

Of course it sucks to be using so much money now to be paying things off but just think how you'll feel this time next year - even if you're not fully paid off you'll be so much closer! It's only 3 weeks since this challenge started and you've made an amazing start - focus on what you've done so far instead of what is still to come :A

  • Just listed something on ebay - can you not set the amount you'll automatically accept/decline on best offers anymore? I'm expecting to get a load of emails from people chancing their arm and I'd rather not deal with them! :p

Also just happened upon the seller dashboard page - did you know your total sales are listed there? Apparently I've made nearly £7K selling on ebay  - it has taken over 10 years though!
