    YES...

And I don't think I've ever stuck to a budget properly either :(

It probably doesn't help that I do it and then don't share it with OH as don't want to be controlling with what is equally his money... so he may have stuff coming up that he's forgotten about etc that never makes it into the budget.

We are terrible with our food budget, I absolutely *must* start food planning but everytime I start it I'm like urgh, can't be bothered thinking about what I want to eat in a weeks time!

If anyone has any budget tips do share :D

There's something about supermarkets that is absolutely, I've decided, hostile to any kind of planning, be it a list, budget or even just having a thought of what to get for dinner.

My last shop was for milk and bread, yes, just milk and bread. I already had what I needed for dinner. Or so I thought. £46 later. The most expensive milk and bread ever!:(
  • I did really well at the supermarket this weekend, went with a specific list of meals, and didn't get anything that wasn't on the list either :j I picked up a bottle of wine, but put it back after 2 minutes
I did forgot bin bags, but they weren't even on the list lol :rotfl:

In the USA, Lioness (great username btw!). I just do a flat rate conversion from dollars for posting on the site - keeps it simple.
    Thanks :)

We are in the US too. I'm a dual citizen but American by birth and DH is Brit.

We are in the SF Bay Area, whereabouts are you?
  • Been naughty, although hubby has said he will pay every cent off...spent on the credit card last week so I am number 76, could you change the amount to £14,500 please. Let's try again. 😖

Tut tut! ;) No problem, I'll get that amended for you.

Some good payments trickling in, but this definitely feels like the calm before the end-of-month storm. My payday is 1 week tomorrow, and it can't come soon enough. That bank balance is looking decidedly dodgy at the moment!

I've updated the front sheet, let me know if I've made any mistakes. Keep going everyone.

I am wondering what to do with my credit cards at the end of the month.

MBNA still has the £250 balance. Barclaycard I haven't used in over a year and sits there doing nothing. Tesco card is my spend and pay back card as it gets me clubcard points. Ideally like to get rid of all but think I will need to keep 1 at least for emergency (not that I would because I will have savings soon)

What would be better for my credit rating etc?

I have a similar dilemma, except I'm down to one card. I think I've decided to keep it and not use it, as I have a long history on it and I want to keep it on my credit file.

If I were you, I'd close them all down except one - probably the Tesco card as it's in regular use.

I know of someone who uses a Tesco credit card for the clubcard points. They ahve also started to use the card to buy groceries and/or petrol each month, but as this is already budgeted for, they can easily repay the balance at the end of the month. She's been transferring her allocated money to a small esavings account so she knows she doesn't use it for anything else and end up back in debt :)

Just an idea... at least that way you would still get the Tesco points :) and it would help to boost your credit rating (as far as I can remember!)
  • General update from me today! I've been trying to have a serious declutter this year (all 13 days of it so far!) and it's going well so far - I'm getting rid of all kinds of stuff I've just moved around from one place to another for the last few years and it is so freeing!! Another big bag of clothes and books to go to the charity shop - will need to speak nicely to DH this evening!

    Small debt repayment update:
    #057: £392.00 / £8202.00 4.8%

Also trying to be a bit proactive about other things too - got a letter about half an hour ago about the tariff on our gas bills ending at the end of February - so have rushed along to uswitch (via quidco of course!) and sorted us out a new one - which is allegedly cheaper than the one we are currently on anyway!
    "Congratulations Ruby,
you've just saved £71.64 on your energy bills!"

Well that's a lot nicer than telling me I've wasted that much on them :D
