  • DFWXmas2015 #166 here - I had slightly underestimated the debt on my Next account, its actually 2,755.98 (total debt 4055.98) but I paid 450.00 off today, and am hoping to do at least the same again before the end of the month.

I've been paying back a tax credit overpayment for the last year and the final payment has been made today :j

I didn't include it in my target but it is such a relief to finally have it paid off and it means I'll have almost £60 a month more to throw at my credit cards.

In February, I discovered one of the flats upstairs from us was up for sale, we were very tempted, but it just was not a good time to add more stress to our lives so we held off for a few weeks. The flat was snapped up within a month and since then we have been kicking ourselves a little bit, along the lines of 'if they had just listed it a few weeks later'.

Yesterday another flat in the building went up for sale, so we have arranged a viewing. My OH's aunt and uncle have offered to loan us some money to take the amount we have saved up to enough for a 10% deposit, and although it means more debt, this is psychologically "good debt". Anyway, watch this space, as we may well be going back to square one soon! At least our excuse would be a good one...

Eugh, just had another bad moment tonight. I realise I will have to pay off the virgin media account when we move.

I lowered my tariff about 9 months ago and I argued the point I didn't want to be added to a new contract with them but I just checked tonight and I went on a new 18mth contract which means I will need to pay off the remainder when we leave. Annoyingly no VM cable in the area we are moving too.

    Soo frustrating :(

    Hi all

This is my aim too..to be debt free by December 2015. I have a house move in the pipeline which should be completed by the summer. Thinking end July/ August time. I've been doing so well on the debt but the extra legal and other expenses for the move are likely to push me off target. I cant increase my salary in the short term, I can focus on selling off stuff and on keeping expenditure to an absolute minimum. Free listings weekend on ebay so I am going to get what I can out the door for ££ these next few weeks. And claim my mileage!
    Total debt at 18.9.17 £1950

    Debts down £12,700 high in Feb 2015, £10,700 April 15, £8830 May 15, £6776 June 15 , £5857 July 15 £6970 1.3.16
    £3950 15 May 2017 £3470 July 17 £2650 21.8.17

    Update from me #037
    Another £245.83 off the loan.
    I have a bit of a confession.
I traded in my fiesta for a bigger car because....well I'm weak....
Hubby and I thought long and hard and decided we needed 1 bigger car for when we start trying for a family and this is a long term investment. At least we bought one that's a year and a half old and has had the depreciation hit already. I do love it but I can't help feeling guilty. It's like a step back rather than forward. We worked out it was going to cost a lot to buy the fiesta anyway and the monthly payments for this one are actually less than I would've paid to purchase the old car.
Hubby is giving me half of the car payment each month so bizarrely I'm better off now than I was before, but I'm still a bit uncomfortable about it. Oh well.
*shuffles off to hide in the corner to think about actions and scolds self*
I hope the rest of you are doing better with self control than I am! :o:rotfl:

Can you not get out of it due to it not being in the area you are moving to. I would give them a call.

"I feel i am being unfairly treated due to the fact i am moving into an area that VM does not cover and i am now required to pay the remainder of a 18 month contract i did not realise i was tied into, I would have loved to have stayed with VM however this is not possible due to lack of VM service locally.

What I would like to happen is some sort of recognition that the contract needs to end due to lack of service in my new local area and a good will gesture of the contract ending without financial penalty to myself. I would hope to be a future VM customer in the future if/when VM serves my new address"

^^^^ something similar to that using "I STATEMENTS" has helped quite a few people i know who have had similar issues with lack of service provision in their new area with various other companies, i am not sure how "friendly VM" are.

    Good luck-
