    Update from me #037
    Another £245.83 off the loan.
    I have a bit of a confession.
I traded in my fiesta for a bigger car because....well I'm weak....
Hubby and I thought long and hard and decided we needed 1 bigger car for when we start trying for a family and this is a long term investment. At least we bought one that's a year and a half old and has had the depreciation hit already. I do love it but I can't help feeling guilty. It's like a step back rather than forward. We worked out it was going to cost a lot to buy the fiesta anyway and the monthly payments for this one are actually less than I would've paid to purchase the old car.
Hubby is giving me half of the car payment each month so bizarrely I'm better off now than I was before, but I'm still a bit uncomfortable about it. Oh well.

I hope the rest of you are doing better with self control than I am! :o:rotfl:

Please don't feel guilty :) The truth of the matter is real life happens even when we are fighting debt! It's not as though you went for a Bugatti :rotfl: You were practical and sensible. I am a member of another thread where I do my best to build up not spending each day. But, if a bogof is on an item I would buy regularly anyway or it's something I need anyway, I'd be silly not to buy it. It's when we splurge regardless, it matters , as to me we haven't learnt anything. Having said that, what might be a splurge to others, may well be a necessity to someone else. Your purchase is justified, enjoy it :T

Dont fee guilty- you need a car to work :D

I am the same, i need a new car, mine is 14 years old and i doubt very much it will pass its MOT in 3 weeks without needing a lot of work doing. I went out last week looking at various cars- the one i wanted would be un-drivable for me (short legs, seat pulled forward to reach the pedals , knees hit steering column :( ) so still looking.

I am not counting the new car a "Debt" - i will be saving money over the term of the "debt" - lower insurance (from group 14- to group 1-2) no road tax (saving over £240 a year) and much more fuel efficient and a car that will last another 10+ years

You say you are better off a month now- to ease the guilt why not throw it at car "debt" as an overpayment :p
Finally dealing with debt: 01.01.2015 -£10,562.:(

Can you not get out of it due to it not being in the area you are moving to. I would give them a call.

"I feel i am being unfairly treated due to the fact i am moving into an area that VM does not cover and i am now required to pay the remainder of a 18 month contract i did not realise i was tied into, I would have loved to have stayed with VM however this is not possible due to lack of VM service locally.

What I would like to happen is some sort of recognition that the contract needs to end due to lack of service in my new local area and a good will gesture of the contract ending without financial penalty to myself. I would hope to be a future VM customer in the future if/when VM serves my new address"

^^^^ something similar to that using "I STATEMENTS" has helped quite a few people i know who have had similar issues with lack of service provision in their new area with various other companies, i am not sure how "friendly VM" are.

    Good luck-

That's great information thanks. I will give that a try.

I am in a similar boat. My MOT for my 13yr old Mondeo is in 3 weeks. I doubt it will pass as it was touch and go last year.

Meaning I will need to get a new car but all my money at moment is in buying the new flat. Moving further away from work so will need a car. I will not see it as debt depending on what happens

We are largely fortunate OH has relatives who can afford to help out, or we'd be a bit longer ourselves amr! We were anticipating end of year, although I don't like the idea of having no savings in case of an emergency, you can't borrow money from people and still stockpile a rainy day fund at the same time.

yes, we don't have any relatives who could help us so if we want it we just have to make a few sacrifices... The payrise will help massively but it's car mot month so anything I could have saved is likely to be spent on the car instead :(

I am also concerned about what prices might look like next year as they're already climbing......

I think it's a good idea to buy whilst you have the chance!

Thanks guys. Sounds silly but I was scared of reappearing on here and telling people. It's a 10 year + car, so I have to like it, and it is sensible, even if it is white and shows the dirt! Perks of buying used :rotfl:
I can breathe again now. And I am throwing the extra at the rest of the debt and savings, so I feel a bit better.
    Baby due 21/06/2017 :)

    Evening all,

Not been on here for ages but have read through everybody's posts today and great to see everybody still plugging away at debt busting while still having to cope with life and the expenses that sometimes we just have to make. That's what it has been like for me just lately and have no spare cash at all! However have still been determined and although really could do without overpaying on my mortgage I haven't cancelled the DD on the overpayment and now another £3,000 has been paid and I am only 10 months away from being mortgage free.
