We've been very frugal this month - I got so much into the mind-frame that I had to make my money last to the end of January, and so I ended up with loads left!
Overall we're doing well - my OH and I are very keen to get on the property ladder, and we're determined that this year we need to get our finances in line. Two weeks ago, OH boldly announced he would save a grand a month, until I pointed out that after rent, bills, fuel etc., he doesn't have that much left. Poor dear...
However, I suggested we try to live on just one income for 6 months - we earn about the same, so it's the same as living on half our incomes. It will leave money really quite tight, so I'm thinking I'll stagger it - every third month I'll give myself an extra £100-£150 so I can get any part-essentials (like work clothes or perfume).
My OH's aunt and uncle also kindly offered us a loan to help out, but we agreed we need to sort out our finances first - we have to make sure buying a house won't add any debt (beyond a mortgage obviously), so all the more motive!
Anyway, between January frugality and pay day this week, I have managed to pay:
#001 £950/3500 = 25.68%
I kept back about £150 in case of emergency, but hopefully I can get to the end of the month without spending any of it.
Good luck with February! And Happy Pay Day :j
We too want to get on the ladder and already trying to get finances in order, the culprit for us is we opt to pay stuff monthly rather than upfront Eg insurance..that is our goal this month and next - get it all paid!
It feels impossible though! How do people afford to save these days :rotfl:0 -
Hey all.
Number #59 updating
Well its been a mammoth month that seemed like it was never going to end but yahooooo we are here at last!
I've made payments today, transferred cash over to the bill account ready direct debts that are due to come out.
Total payments for FEB £1038.54
Total up to date now is 1,748/10,562 which i think is around 16.5% :j
January has been a very odd month- health issues with hubby and son got us off to a bad start to 2015, the end of Janaury has been a great one- I applied for 2 new jobs, got interviews for both, had one interview and was offered the job (same salary but less hours) - the other interview is next week for the other job (which also comes with a 10K a year pay rise) fingers crossed i get it, will be debt free in no time :rotfl:
I've had a some great sales on ebay which has helped this month towards the debts and i've also lost 11lb :T:D
Good luck everyone - looking forward to reading your updates for February :beer:Finally dealing with debt: 01.01.2015 -£10,562.:(

I'm not off the starting blocks yet. I have paid all my bills and minimums on cc but two low rate deals I applied for last January have just ended. I have just got a credit limit increase on two of the cards so hoping to do a credit card shuffle to get all or most of my money back to low rates (4.9% instead of 18 - 22%) and then to get rid of two of the cards.
The debt will be gone this year one way or another (preferably with an early sale of my other house) but want to be paying off the principle not interest. I have to wait for the next Statement from one of the cards to get the best from my shuffle so not taking anything off until all charges have been covered. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
