  • My midwives were wonderful on Saturday when I suddenly had a bit of bleeding just before I went to bed. It was only a tiny bit but having been on my feet all day I'd not felt the baby move and I needed some reassurance that all was well so off to the big hospital we went and all is fine, I slept much better knowing that baby was fine and the bleeding had no ominous cause than I would have if I'd waited til the morning. Baby then spent yesterday wriggling around plenty so feeling much better (though my back is suffering after a long drive to MIL's yesterday)

NWOIHTS - I would say always give the midwife a call about anything that seems unusual. Hopefully its just the normal growing pains as her womb stretches but as she's so early (and from the sounds of it hasn't had her scan yet) better to get it checked out if the pain comes back.

Thanks will do, it only seemed to peak that evening the subside and better with each day after. I'd read the stretching can be quite painful and she said was sore when she moved, so likely just tendons and stuff having a stretch. Not surprised as not been preggers before so first experience of it.

Hmm, it's so hard to know with an achy stomach - there is a certain amount of stretching, and also bloating/gas/constipation - all the joys of your body trying to deal with new hormones!
You definitely shouldn't put a hot water bottle on your stomach when pregnant though, for the same reasons you shouldn't use saunas/hot tubs - the heat just isn't good for the baby. (It's fine to use a hot water bottle on aching back, though, that being a bit further away!)

I'd definitely give the midwife a call if it happens again - it's why they're there. And they can give advice and/or ask your partner to pop in for a check up/scan.

The consultant told me they'd rather see you 20 times for things which turn out not to be serious than miss one time when it is serious. Good luck!

I've been having a similar although much less dramatic experience. Over the past week I've had occasional stitch-like twinges and a few pains in the lower abdomen region but nothing that's caused major discomfort. I did put it down to 'growing pains' but I have a midwife appointment in two weeks so will mention it then. This is also my first baby and I'm 14 weeks tomorrow.
NWOIHTS - hopefully your partner feels better soon!

When I roll over in bed/move too quickly I get an awful pain low down on my right - almost where my belly meets my leg. It must just be ligaments, or maybe muscle, but every time I do it I'm rolling about in agony!! It always fades right away again though.

Sproglet has been having a right rummage about inside me today. I hope he's as perky for his second attempt at the scan on Weds!!
  • Bosscout - sounds just like me but mines on the left! I've had to adapt how I get in and out of the car to avoid too much stretching as that brings it on too.

There was another episode but it seems to have subsided quite quickly. Her pee was cloudy so we thought maybe urine infection but that was clear when went to MW for standard check up. Bit confused as we thought it was first scan they wanted to do but it was just loads of questions, they were very nice all the same.

They didn't seem to concerned about pains, just said it is stretching/expansion pains.

Partner did say she felt constipated, but was going to loo. She mentioned she thinks maybe eating too much and needs to revert back to healthier diet for now. Perhaps was bunged up a bit too.

Unfortunately this didn't end good, sad but got to keep trying as these things happen. I think this highlights the importance of early pregnancy checks, even if you are trying, get a check on your tubes they are not blocked or anything like that, and if you are trying, take folic acid and monitor everything you possibly can.

NWOIHTS - I'm sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you both. I know its a personal question so feel free to tell me to go away but would you mind sharing what happened? Make sure the two of you are looking after yourself and getting the support you need.
