Well, my 16wk appt (dead on 17wks) did make me feel a lot better! MW only managed to hear the heartbeat for a few seconds, because sproglet was doing some sort of gymnastics routine and kept escaping. But at least I know it's busy in there!
And it's not every day you get to begin by being told you have perfect urine... got to take these compliments were you can get them...
  • ROFL yep, take those compliments!

My midwife hasn!!!8217;t listened for baby!!!8217;s heartbeat yet (but the scan showed a good strong heart on Monday).

afoolandhermoney - I asked if she could listen at the 16wk check. But she told me they do it as standard anyway. I know they don't everywhere, as it can be tricky to pick up and they don't want to cause worry if they can't find it. I was reassured enough by the amazing sound of it kicking the doppler picked up not to be too worried that she couldn't get the heartbeat for long enough to count the frequency. Our anomaly scan is in 3 weeks, so not too long to wait!

What are people's thoughts here on finding out the gender? I think we will...but will then try not to to tell anybody (although I'm sure I'll accidentally let slip...)
  • oh gosh, I don't think I'd be able to keep it a secret either. We haven't found out, mainly because our NHS trust won't tell you and it seems silly to spend the money on a private scan (OH refuses point blank to fork out for one and I am trying to see the sense in saving the money for nappies, it isn't much but it all helps - especially as we "caught" so quickly that our baby savings are not what I'd like them to have been).

I was too busy to feel baby move much at the end of last week but boy it went for it on Saturday! loads of little fluttery kicks for half an hour in the evening, and it tickled so much I couldn't help giggling (which OH said was creepy)

We are going to find out the gender. We did with our first. I didn't keep it a secret but did kept the name a secret until she was born.

I want to find out this time as I can't think of a girls name I like so need all the time in the world to think of one :rotfl: Our DD is Catherine which DH picked. I get to pick this time.

I hadn't really thought about our NHS trust not doing the gender. I guess we might go private if that's the case. I don't know. Not very money-saving, is it?? :D
We won't be telling anyone the names we've chosen either - although we've only absolutely settled on a boy's name, girl's name is still a list....we def need more time!
I'm still feeling very un-pregnant, although my list of pills to take each night is now up to 4, thanks to the consultant...
Going for my second heart scan next week. Shame I can't ask them to just have a quick peek at the sproglet while they've got the ultrasound up and running!
  • Hope the heart scan goes will this week Bosscout.

I'm still not sleeping well - a combination of being too warm and there just not being enough pillows to get comfy on my side. Think I need to get another two, or some sort of mattress topper so I have extra cushioning under my hips, I've already got three under my head, one behind me (to stop me rolling on my back) and one between my knees (might get another one for between my knees too). OH complaining about how much bed I'm taking up now.

Tiredness not helped by a long week at work last week with a lot of travelling including a 7 hour drive (that should have been 4) back on Friday afternoon/evening :-( - thank god for a long weekend of lounging on the sofa (and hubby getting us out of a trip to his mum's as there was too much to do around the house - very little of which I could help with).

Heart scan went fine! The lady doing it seemed a bit stern at first, not that I cared, I was just happy to get it done. But anyway, she cheered up! I was a model patient, and made her happy by holding my breath for ages for her to get everything scanned.
Anyway, then she asked about the baby, so I joked she could check on it if she wanted, given she had a scanner!.... And she did! Once everything was done with my heart she said she'd never tried to use a heart scanner to find a baby before, but she could try.
I think she got more excited than I did! Sproglet was in there doing some shadow boxing.
And this time next week it's the 20wk scan, which is good!

I hope you find a comfy position for sleeping. I've got a very plump cushion between my legs and that's it, so far...thinking about some sort of longer pillow to rest on too at some point though.

Sorry haven't been posting much! I'm not sleeping well so still tired a lot even though I'm 17 weeks now!
At 16 week check I didn't specifically ask to hear heartbeat but theubsaod they don't do it that early. I have heard online they can't always find it at that point and that gets pregnant women all worried when there may be nothing wrong.
We're not going to find out sex. Just occasionally they get it wrong and I don't want to feel commited to an outcome that doesn't happen (although it is rare).
    Has anyone bought anything yet?
We went to the NEC baby show and came away with cloth nappies because they were on a good offer! Should be good money saving if we stick with them :)
I think a pregnancy pillow may have to be next purchase although I'm sure I'll still not sleep well :(
Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)
  • Great news on the scan Bosscout - I bet the lady was excited, it must make such a change to her usual days.

Selement - I've been investigating cloth nappies, I definitely think I'd prefer to use them but as its our first I think I'll get some disposables to begin with. The only thing I've actually bought so far are some wet wipes, but we've been gifted a moses basket and a travel system and a cot is on its way.

I'm managing to get a bit comfier with a pillow between my legs and another under my hips as well as two under my head/shoulders. Still waking in the early hours though - have resorted to wearing PJs and sleeping only half under the covers as I'm too warm entirely under and too cold out if I'm not wearing anything.
