Would like to see all the petrol stations get rid of that silly 9/10th of a pence at the end of the price.

If they did that they would obviously round it up meaning a small but still an increase in the price we pay. ;)

. Almost every other country in Europe has been dropping prices daily or even more often to keep pace with the OIL PRICE CRASH (read my lips) ...

And you have the proof or is it just anecdotal Alf?

If the price does drop to £1/L will they see that as a good time to add more duty onto it?

Indeed, they've been demonising Diesels (people induced to with VED based on CO2 only) recently via many media articles, and Boris has been bumping his gums over it too to keep himself in the limelight, with enough drones on side it's the perfect time to increase VED and fuel tax takes, especially on Diesel.

Someone, preferably not the major Party contributors, has got to stem the increasing national debt and fund increasing foreign aid simultaneously, motorist as always a handy cash cow.

If you mean when the real price net of tax drops to 40p/litre, then it already did.

Problem for us is not them daring to adjust the duty, which they dare not do, but them daring to settle for 60% of the rip-off prices being charged by the fuel retail cartels. To "them" it is just another way of skinning the same cat.

With the current 150% added to the less than 40p real price they get only a maximum of 60p tax out of the £1/litre gross price to us punters.

So by the government keeping quiet and settling for the rip off prices their big corporate mates are charging at say 110p/litre best, they are getting not 60p tax but at least 10% more tax than that without changing any duty whatsoever.

But as we know, the UK motoring population are generally head-down wage-slaves whose command of maths is on the slight side.

So they will be driving home to Christmas none the wiser :snow_laug

Has anyone else noticed how the difference between the price of petrol and diesel has widened in the last few weeks. It used to be around four pence per litre, now it's typically seven pence.

Diesel has fallen in price, but not at the same rate as petrol recently. I've a feeling we're being ripped off again....

(Incidentally, I'm not a 'newbie', but I've been unable to log in after getting a new computer.)

Perhaps it's the fact that you get almost TWICE as much Petrol from a barrel of crude oil than you do Diesel (42% versus 22%) that makes diesel the more expensive of the two and as the cost of crude drops the relative price differential between them widens accordingly to maintain the cost/profit margin ratio of the two products.

Incidentally ASDA's UNLEADED dropped to 110.7p a litre about a week ago .....

...and then yesterday (24th) I noticed it's now only 109.7

You might get 42% petrol to 22% diesel, but you would really need to look at the costings.

My 42% petrol might cost me 50p per litre, but my 22% diesel might only cost 10p per litre.

Dont know the costings, just the first thing that comes to mind.

No, Diesel IS more expensive to produce than Petrol.

It didn't used to be, when it was rather "unrefined" and all diesel cars chucked out black soot by the bucket-load but more recently defined "clean variant" standards, specifically requiring lower sulphur diesel mean there's a far more complex and expensive refining process.
