Astrol - have you tried calling on 01253-840007 which was a number given out by someone on 17 Jan and they got a quick answer?

Replying to myself! Following my report of the impossibility of contacting NSANDI I tried the number posted earlier in this thread - and got through!

I went to apply. Firstly I couldn't find my NS&I number. Requested it and it came a few days later by post. Went to apply, couldn't remember (not what I thought it was) password. Tried to change it online. It wouldn't let me but told me to ring them. I got through on the alternative number. They are now sending me a new (temporary?) password ! Waiting .........
Thank you for reading this message.

There is a page where you are asked to pay using a debit card which does not have to be from the same bank as that where you want withdrawals to be sent to.

Thanks. do you have to pay there and then when you get to that page OR do you have wait to be vetted by nsandi and pay later OR is there a procedure where you can go through the application process and pay later (I have to transfer money between a/cs but don't want to start doing so unless I know the whole process for pensioner bonds)

Its just like any purchase with debit card - you pay then and it is verified by the bank. I opened my bank's website part way through the application so that I could transfer the money between accounts at the last minute.
Then you get this email from nsandi:

    Dear xxxxxx

Thank you for choosing to invest with NS&I.

We have sent you a secure message to confirm your new investment. Please visit nsandi.com and log in to read it. You'll need your NS&I number and password.

If this is the first time you've registered for NS&I's online service, we'll send you separate confirmation of your NS&I number by post. You will be able to log in as soon as you receive this.

    Yours sincerely

Today I qualify to apply for the 65 and over bonds and of course cannot get through on the phone. 4% is bound to attract quite a bit of enthusiasm especially now that it seems low interest rates will continue for some time. Your post would indicate that you successfully applied online without previously registering. If that is so I will have a go at the online application. Just do not want to get so far through the application to be told that a password/registration number will be sent in the post and then I will be able to complete an application. Already put the funds in my current account so would like to get the bond.

I hope your current account is a 3% AER account.

I applied 8pm on the 16th and got my number on Tuesday 20th. You decide your password when you apply - think it is minimum of 6 to include upper and lower case letter, number and a symbol eg /
You need details of the account withdrawals are to go to and a debit card to pay for the bond but they do not need to be with the same bank.
    Hope this helps.

If you want to do it over the phone try calling on 01253-840007 which was a number given out by someone on 17 Jan and they got a quick answer?

  • This is the first forum I've ever posted in, so forgive me if I'm doing it wrong...

I invested £10,000 in a 3-year Pensioner Bond online, and registered for online access as part of the process. I now want to invest another £10,000 in the 1-year Bond online, but it asks me whether I'm registered (which I now am) and won't let me in without my NS&I number. But I won't get that for ages (they send letter, I sign it and return, they write to me again with NS&I number). So how does anyone invest the second £10k online if they don't have their NS&I number??

I tried emailing NS&I but they replied with totally irrelevant information.
