A friend of mine bought a house in my village for £285k in 2007. They sold it this August for £395k. It makes me wonder what my house is now worth - I bought it for £250k in 2007 and have since added a loft conversion. My friend's house is smaller but is on a better road.

We need to restructure our family way of living in the following ways.

    A) Families need to look after their own elderly to avoid the care bills and stop expecting the tax payer to pick up the balance.

It's a nice idea - but if you ask on the house buing form for advice about having your elderly mum sell her house and move in with you the result is a barrage of advice saying what a terrible idea this is.

Had a peek at the poll results.

56 votes, well over 3 million earned in total.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas to all Deserving Homeowners.:xmastree:

May 2015 be at least as lucrative as this year.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

First of all, can I just say that Harold Shipman examined my son's shoulder after an injury on the rugby pitch, more than that I will not say... (just noticed a reference to him by Linda_D...)

This kind of thing takes me back to the house price boom in the 90s and dinner parties at that time. There was a lot of talk about house values and I remember people saying to me "what's your house worth now"? (Presumably because although very sound, the elderly lady who had lived in it before us had not updated it; I was very pleased about this and it remains stuck in the 30s as much as I can manage it, but with new "hidden" services, etc.) My response always was "oh, a shade under £40k - that's what we paid for it and it's our home". Our home has never been revalued since we bought it in early 1987 and I really don't care at all. When I walked in to the house the first time I said "I'll leave here in a box" and I still feel that way, I love my dear home, though it has only one indoor lavatory, no "Sky" and a 27 year old boiler.

Unfortunately, I may have to revise my plan in 10 years or so, it's a bit big without children playing in it.

    Regards, Lisa

Remember your house is not earning money it is stealing it from the less well off the sick disable unemployed and pensioners etc...

When the bubble burst it is those who pay the price.

Wow I've always wondered what my house got up too while I was at work, I had no idea it was mugging passers-by

You obviously down understand 'irony' I ticked the £250k + for the same reason others did, to show how pointless this thread is.:rotfl:

I didn't realise May was that 'lucrative' this year ;) But then perhaps a 'quant' would :D

this sum can only exist if someone actually buys the property
    demand is currently falling
so the sum is more of a meme than a tangible asset

Of all the fora on this moneysaving board, this one is by far the most lucrative. The others by comparison are like picking up pennies in front of a steam roller.

For years, I listened to the idiots over on HPC and didn't buy. It was only when I found this one and started listening to the likes of Hamish that I decided to.

Best decision I ever made, I seriously don't understand why people mock mine and others success is purchasing the most successful investment of recent years.

Yeah but bubbly, it's a dump.
Likewise, Linda_D's residence wasn't much of a money spinner either this year.

Ahhh my sad stalker. You have a lot of serious personal problems and should see my doctor, Harold Shipman.:rotfl:
He'll help you with all that "mayo" all over your face:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
