Yes the OP should ignore their contractual obligation to pay the rent on time and the advice about learning to budget a 4 weekly pay cycle in order to pay monthly bills.

Many LLs will happily agree to change the date rent is paid.

If delaying payment, either a small extra payment can be agreed to cover the period between old and new payment date, or it can be agreed that the rent continues to cover he period from the old payment date for a month, but is just paid a few days late.

    The important thing is to

    a) agree clearly with the LL and
    b) get a written statement of what date rent is now due, and what period it covers.

When the tenancy ends, an allowance may be needed if the rent does not cover the exact periods of the tenancy.

I get paid 4 weekly which is a pain.

What I do is have two bank accounts at the same bank - one which I get paid in and the direct debits are taken out and the other is my everyday account.

On payday, I sit down and find out the next payday and calculate the DDs which are taken between that day and next payday. I then round up the figure of the DDs to the next £10 and subtract that from the balance in the bills account and transfer the difference rounded up to the next £10 to my everday account. That gives me a £12-18 cushion on top of the od For example if I get paid on the 20th of a 31 day month, the next pay day is 17th of the following month and any DD that comes out between 17th-20th will be taken out the following month.

That way, I can 'forget' about the bills account

Very few LLs and LAs will accept 4 weekly rent.

Talk with your LL, as a LL I would agree to 13 rent payments a year instead of 12 ( obviously paying the same amount over the year)

You would still have your bills tp pay monthly so some budgeting would be needed but have the conversation.
