Is it just me or is First Direct

Options
the worst online banking website?

Just switched to them and have used 4 or 5 others in the past, but their website is very basic and just unfriendly.

Very surprised given their consistent ratings at the top of all customer satisfaction lists.

Will be availing myself of the closing guarantee I think.

It's not the best - M&S Bank is a duplicate with brighter colours.

I'm sure you'll get someone here soon enough who been using First Direct since it inception and think its the best invention since the wheel :rotfl:

I agree that their website is not the best. I don't see the point in the second window they and Yorkshire use, I find the large areas of black quite oppressive and screens are too cluttered - forcing one to scroll when all of a page's information and entry fields could be kept closer together in a less cluttered layout.

I guess that the satisfaction rating may be based upon their telephone banking service - which many rate very highly for competence and courtesy.

    Have you ever seen Coop?
    What features are you missing?

I guess many like 'modern' Barclaycard online banking. Personally, I don't like it because of excessive clutteredness.

You don't have to use the 'second window' just go to this address:

And then you can just bookmark the page

Or apply your own CSS to their page with a custom browser or browser add-on.

I haven't been using FD since its inception, but (after applying my customisations) it is my favourite internet banking site now that Santander has tabletified its website.

First Direct were built as a 'telephone bank' prior to the massive take up of online banking.

I guess they concentrate more on customer service and call centre stuff than the internet.

It is functional though and does the job, and they delayed using annoying token things for a long while (a positive).

It is a pity I cannot see my mortgage on it though.

I'd give FD 2 out of 5 for its website banking. I'd give lloyds/TSB/BoS 4/5. But I wouldn't even give 10% weighting to a banks website when choosing where to bank. I perform very little action on my bank websites of which I use about 8.

I don't get the fuss about internet banking and how it looks. If you can see your balance, pay a bill or transfer money, i'm happy. I don't need to see pending transactions because i know what i've spent and whether it's debited or not. What more would you need ?
  • I actually don't mind the old school look cos it does everything i want
  • They've got nothing on Co-Op. I think Co-Op's website was made in 2005 by a 14 year old and he was paid in chocolate.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
