Early 50's man. What to wear on a night out?

I think men are lucky in that they can't go too far wrong as far as dressing for a night out goes
Avoid trainers or anything scruffy and you should be ok.
The only man I've seen in a night club looking very out of place was a guy in his 40s dressed up in a smart suit, attempting to bop around with the youngsters on an 'indie' night :rotfl:
That would be my exClueless, absolutely clueless.

Remember Dug, just be yourself, there is no need to pretend anything. No one is better or worse than you and we all have our issues..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

My husband is 47 and he would wear jeans (decent ones, not Dad jeans) and a shirt, worn open-necked obviously, with his Vans if allowed, or probably his suede brogues if not because he loves them although I hate them (and yes I do know they are trendy again but I still don't like them!). He also has some nice brown leather shoes that are trendy but not too young. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I sympathize.
I agree with other posters. A nice pair of trousers casual or not, your choice, something you like and could easily wear again.
A shirt with buttons and a collar and shoes not trainers.
Best bet is Next. Look online. I always order 2 sizes if not sure and if you get them delivered to store you can try on there and then and get unwanted sizes refunded and returned straight away.
Not knowing your colouring I agree a nice shirt in not too bold a colour is more flattering.
I admire you stepping into new territory. Next is Fab and my 83 year old fathers favorite shop. He never looks like he is dressing too young as they do such a great range of classics.
To guarantee entrance to most clubs a collared shirt, trousers and shoes are a must. Dress code might allow smart jeans but if busy you could get turned away so trousers always best.
Let us know what you choose and see it as a new adventure.

Sorry to hear about your wife.
I think smart dark jean-like trousers and a shirt would be fine. It's tough socialising after losing a loved one, but if you do find you want to get out more, there is a group called WAY-Up for widows/ers in their 50s. It's technically a support group but they have social events too.
I'm a member of WAY-Widowed and Young which is the equivalent for those who were widowed under the age of 50 and I've made so many friends, it's nice to get out, but with the safety net of being with people who understand.
Have a great time!Bossymoo

Should have added I get most of my shirts from charity shops as I don't wear the good ones that often.
I do browse occationaly and TKmax has some decent stuff but a bit of a lottery some times with what they have.
last purchase in a proper shop was Fat Face I like their stuff and sometimes they have good sale prices.
This time of year a Xmas themed shirt would probably work well0 -
My OH is in his 40's and he wears a smart polo shirt with black jeans and black brogues- he doesn't go much for shirts.
I second Debenhams or Next- ive just bought him a lovely polo shirt in Debenhams and it was reduced as well so you may even pick up a bargain
Best of luck OP. You sound like a gentleman and hopefully you can find yourself a bit of happiness, you deserve it.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

Good luck with your social life. I was widowed 5 years ago but I have a 10 year old so I'm still spending most of my nights indoors. He's worth it though.0 -
People have been saying bad things about M&S but I think they're pretty good for menswear. My husband is 51 and goes into nervous fits if I mention clothes-shopping, so I tend to do all of it for him these days. He tends to live in jeans and t-shirts but I've been trying to encourage him to wear plain black or navy trousers with a nice shirt - one with a proper collar, not one of those weird collarless jobbies. And for shoes you can't really go wrong with a pair of Oxfords - I'd personally choose black because they'll go with anything.
In this weather you want a decent jacket preferably with a decent padded lining. Sports jackets can look good, e.g. baseball, something like this, which you could wear to most occasions, or just for day-to-day:0 -
I'm 65 but I still look at places like this

for ideas and inspiration.
Harvey Nicks Boxing Day sale is great for shirts, and trousers and jackets too if you are early and lucky. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
