Jeremy isn't TopGear, as they are always keen to point out when he says something controversial (but often true).

Agree, but as the quote is attributed to "Jeremy Clarkson - Top Gear" it would seem to imply that he is praising the car in his role as a presenter on Top Gear.

I would assume they have permission to use the quote and therefore the Top Gear team/bosses are happy for the Top Gear name to be used in endorsement.

It depends on how your read it, I don't read that as an endorsement by TG, I read it as an endorsement by JC of TG.

TG are very much against kitcars, until Ultima stops producing kits and produces only fully built cars, I don't think TG will go near em with a bargepole.

When they drove the Lancia Stratos replica, what they didn't show you was how they basically sabotaged the car to make it bad as possible. All scripted into the show for your viewing pleasure, knowing full well that a small kit car manufacturer would not have the finances to take any legal action against them.

Looking at the car driving side rather than the Money Saving Expert aspect, I was wondering what car people would get if they had a budget of up to around £125,000 for a new/ nearly new car if you didnt have to worry about the practicalities of fitting kids in the back etc?

If we're talking complete fantasy time - no worries about insurance, running costs or parking it in Sarf Lundun...

    How about a 911?

Doesn't matter what anyone says, the Boxster is seen as a Porsche for people who can't afford a 911.

Only by ignorant people. Not by anyone that knows anything about cars.

Personally, I don't go in for buying show off makes/brands.

    I'd buy an Ultima GTR.

Of course, an Ultima is very discreet and draws no attention at all ;). No one would consider you a "show off" if you roll up in one of those. I wouldn't, firstly because I don't judge people on their choice of transport (because that would be stupid) and second because I'd think "what an excellent car", but then I seriously looked into building an Ultima GTR (with a naturally aspirated LS7) and costed it all up as an alternative. I concluded I was looking at something over £40,000 on the road, a fair bit more than the Boxster or a 993 (one of the other options I considered) would have cost at the time.

I felt that doing 10,000 miles/year in such a thing as my every day sensible car, including the daily rush hour commute, was not going to be viable and I didn't pursue it.

I'd very much like one, but not as my only vehicle.

Ford Capri. It'd cost about £300 but the repairs would take up the rest!
You wouldn't be able to get a pile of rust that used to be a Capri for £300, stick another zero on the end and that may get you a 1.6 L model if you're lucky.
