    its not just power

Torque especially low down give the traction.

Weight if you change that up you will also notice it feels slower.

True, a turbo car will generally feel faster than an equivalent power NA car.

    I have the 120d smart !!!!.

    your 120d probably around

    180BHP
    280lb ft
    1350kg

    1.6 QC

    115BHP
    117lb ft
    1312kg

no wonder the QC felt sluggish that, 120d must pull like a train.

one thing you have to change when you go from D to P is you need to let the engines spin up more to make progress. There are few options out there with decent torque the 1.8 VAg unit pushes 160BHP and 180lb ft which will feel nippy but still nothing like 280lbft under 2000revs

Didn't realise they were 280 lb/ft! Torque is moving on as much as bhp in these modern diesels.
Must make a single car overtake rather brisk.
  • I love my bmw and I am going to miss it. It does go like !!!!! of a shovel and do cheap to run! Anyway decided for the time being against having a qashqai and see what happens for the short term.

    Thanks for your help all.
