Undecided on a car choice... Opinions required!

So I currently drive a diesel BMW. Very nice to drive, its got a good amount of power. Only really used for town driving and a little duel carriage way.

Unfortunately being a 3 door 1 series it is now a little too small. I've been looking at various cars within my budget and I've found a Nissan Qashqai that I do like. Its very well spec'd and within my budget. And importantly is also quite economical.

The reason for that being is that it is a 1.6 petrol. It doesn't have the power that the BMW and the clutch is quite high. It appears that all qashqai's have quite high clutches but I'm hoping that it would be something I'd get used to.

But loosing the pulling away power is something I think I'd miss quite a lot.

Not sure I'm asking a question just getting thoughts onto 'paper'.

I've looked around for other cars of similar style and there aren't any others within my budget that have the same kit.

Diesel Qashqai would get you more of the oomph / torque you had with the diesel BMW.

My SIL had a 1.5DCI Qashqai and got a new 1.6 petrol Qashqai. Hated it. Stuck it 9 months and sold it again because it felt so underpowered.

I think from memory they do a 2.0 petrol Qashqai but it wont be economical :(

Are you sure you're doing the sort of mileage needed for a diesel? Ideally you want to be up in the 15k's per year before considering a diesel. Maybe one of the smaller turbocharged petrols would be better suited to your driving style?

My OH is a mechanic. He refuses point blank to allow me to have the 1.5 diesel because the engines keep going wrong. He's fixed loads in the past.

There is a 2.0 litre petrol. I've driven one and the power is great, but the road tax is nearly £300 and won't be that economical.

I thought about it, but I'd heard a rumour that they are a bit too easy to steal!!!

I've been driving the BMW for nearly 3 years and its been fine for me, but I am happy either way now.

    Blind people don't drive though!
  • I wanted a qashqai, until I saw it next to a Hyundai IX35. I thought the ix35 looked much better. I have a 1.7 dci premium (I think), not sluggish at all, plenty of oomph. im not sure what the petrol would be like
