If you mostly do town /dual carriage driving stick with a petrol. What is your budget? A Golf 1.4 TSI is an excellent engine and has won many awards in the past. Has the 'ommpphh' of a diesel, but not as noisy and no DPF issues0

There is a 2.0 litre petrol. I've driven one and the power is great, but the road tax is nearly £300 and won't be that economical.
Yeah i wouldnt be the biggest fan in the world of that 1.5, but they tend to only go wrong when they're old and have been neglected.
BUT you're not going to get him over that.0 -
Oh god, dark matter is back0

I think Darkmatter has missed the point. I drive a 1 series at the moment and its now too small for me. A golf isn't gonna cut it size wise either sadly.
Anyway, anyone else dropped from a 'higher' powered car to a lower powered one and been ok with it?
I was talking again to my OH last night and he, rightly, pointed out that what do I need that power for? I town drive and with occasional duel carriage way. I think the point is that if I needed to toe it off the line I could and its always there rumbling away in the background. With a 1.6 petrol it isn't.....
I'm going to see if I can get another drive of it later on today and see how it feels and try to finally make a decision.0 -
Can you put your finger on why it's too small? Is it sue to having to put child seats in and out or some such?
I would think for mostly town driving a smaller car would be great for parking and the like...

I jump between a 194 bhp petrol and a 105bhp diesel (the same 1.5DCi from the Quashqui actually) all the time and there's no issue adjusting. You just need to be aware that the lower powered car needs a bit more space to pull out. It's often got a trailer on too so it's even slower. Really no problem though; you'll barely notice a difference most of the time anyway and will have got used to it after a couple of journeys.0 -

Surely not? You do surprise us.0 -
That's just what he does, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you very much, that's reassuring.0 -

Sorry, I've only just picked up that this user has history from reading other threads.0 -
I'm not really a big fan of small petrol cars.0
