Hi, I'm going in a few months and was looking at tours/trips. I have found the ones below which seem good, can anybody please recommend a helicopter tour/Grand Canyon tour and also a shooting a gun experience please?

Don't book via viator! Go direct to the company for booking, or look for deals on groupon etc. there are lots of links on the first page of this thread :-) If you have a few months to play with be sure to look around for the best value deals.

For gun shooting, again have a search through the previous vegas threads (again linked from the front page) as there are loads of suggestions already discussed!

None of the helicopter tours from Las Vegas go to Grand Canyon National Park (it's too far away). Instead they go to a commercial attraction called Grand Canyon West, or the West Rim. Most people who have been to both are of the opinion that the national park is far superior. You can drive yourself to the national park south rim (275 miles each way), or get a coach trip, or a small fixed wing aircraft trip. To visit it in one day doesn't give you long in the park, so if you're driving yourself then an overnight stop in Williams might be worth considering (or in Tusayan or in the park itself if you're happy to pay high accommodation rates).

However, if you understand what Grand Canyon West offers and are happy with that, fair enough.

This video explains the options for visiting the national park from Las Vegas. It's a bit commercialised, and a bit out of date (the Hoover Dam bypass bridge has now been completed and is open to traffic) but it's still basically good info:

BTW you can also get helicopter trips over the Strip in Las Vegas.

for Monte Carlo's pool, it looks like they rent floaty things for the lazy river...does anyone have recent experience of this? It looks like it may be $12/day. We wouldn't be there long, so wondering if we could give ours to someone else or if they are in any way tracked in/out?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

IIRC, the rentals are a bit "industrial", so you wouldn't be able to leave the pool with it (it doesn't deflate easily if at all)

again, IIRC you can buy one for $16(?) if you're there for a few days it's more cost effective (even though its a bit smaller than the rental ones!)

you can deflate it and bring it home then :D (or just buy one off ebay and take it with you) :)

I think you could probably give it to someone after you had finished with it.

A bit late now, we are home.

Have never sat at the bar tho, are the drinks still $1 if you are playing VP?
Yes. Trouble is that we always start off at the bar tops and by 9pm I've had my fill.
What you have to watch out for is a: Wynn/encore don't comp drinks at the bartop pokers, and b: some higher end casinos will require you to play max credits ($1.25) per hand to comp the drinks.
    But that's easy enough circumnavigated😉
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

thanks - we will probably only go to the pool once and I couldn't tell if you could bring your own, my search seemed to bring back conflicting results. We fly on Wednesday, though...so probably no time to buy one. We figured $12 each for an hour was still a lot less than we might spend in the casino in that time, but would prefer if we could pass them onto someone else before we left.

  • Thanks for the help/replies, I'll do my research.

I'm going to cash my swag bucks in for Starbucks credit. Has anybody redeemed swag bucks in America? I'm going to contact Starbucks/Stratosphere hotel to see if they accept the cards/app. Thanks

For anyone who shops at Primm - there's a Travelzoo deal on just now. I'm curious what people think of this. We'll be driving in from San Diego so will be passing these outlets anyway. $10 for a $25 gift card seems like a good deal.

$10 for a $25 gift card, discounts at more than 100 stores with the Green Savings Card ($5 value) and a tote bag ($10 value)
$20 for a $50 gift card, the savings card and tote
This sale is expected to sell out quickly
