Right folks, followed this thread closely before during my last trip to Vegas. Now planning on going back for Xmas/New years next year.

Has anyone spent New Years out in vegas and have any tips for do's/don't do's?

I'm guessing the pools will be closed, and a lot of shows won't be running but other than that is Vegas still worth a visit for 5-6 days at that time of year?

Its pretty busy. Pick where you're going to be on new years eve and get there EARLY -or ideally be staying there. The strip is pedestrian only but is so packed that even crossing the street can take over 30 mins.

I thought it was really disappointing to be honest, it jumped about too much and didn't have any focus / point to it.

Looks like they shot it in early summer 2015, yet the aerial video footage they used was obviously old stock footage, it didn't even have the High Roller in it! I was expecting to see the Sands and Stardust :D

    I thought so too

anyone would think that all there is to Vegas is prostitution and bad guys and why was Mike Tyson given so much air time

to be fair, it wasn't pretending to be sponsored by the Las Vegas Tourist Board :D
but equally it didn't really know what sort of programme it was trying to be?

there was nothing really that hasn't been covered before by other programmes.

We've been a few times over Christmas/NYE. All shows run as normal except Xmas day.

Best tip to eat Christmas dinner, find a restaurant like one in the Orleans or somewhere and book in. You will be standing in a buffet line for 2-3 hours.

You will only get your drinks in plastic cups in the casinos and there will be nowhere to sit if you want to play.

Stay off strip Platinum, Carriage House, Tuscany etc and watch the fireworks from there. You will not be getting anywhere fast.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks, that is really good advice.

I assumed all the stars would go home over Christmas and new years so there wouldn't be much in the way of entertainment, but glad to hear there is still some on.

I was thinking of spending new year at the Rio / Palms as it seems being off strip will give us a better view of the fireworks on New Years Eve which is our primary aim on that night.

    Hey guys,
Any of you got the link handy which is like the calendar for events in Vegas ? (lists anything from the normal stuff, to concerts, whose playing where, etc...)

And also, got any recommendations for accommodation close to Dublin Airport ??? Ideally cheaper the better given we only need a few hours there :)

I found that the Maldron is one of the closest hotels to the airport, managed to get a room for £70 for my date and didn't want one with a transfer bus we had to wait for.

There was some old footage (shot from a car I guess), probably from about the late 80s (I could be wrong) showing the Stardust. Also going along Fremont Street with the Golden Nugget and Binions, (but not The Plaza at the end).
