Sorry to go off topic :)

MyVegas question - I've read you can only redeem 3rewards in mgm properties in 30 days. My wife has collected 4 into her Redemptions pending.

Can you purchase as many as you want if you have the points and then take the 3 on your visit ?

Yes - you can buy as many as you like but you'll only be able to actually redeem three within a 30 day period (unless you're entitled to additional rewards through buying chips)

If you've got the loyalty points it makes sense to perhaps buy a couple of extras so you can use what suits you while you're there, rather than being tied to a particular three. You can then have the ones you don't use refunded as long as they haven't expired. Don't go too bonkers though as you can only get a limited number of refunds in a 30 day period (think it may be five?)

Every time we say we'll go to the Grand Canyon 'next time' but when it comes to it we just can't tear ourselves away from Vegas!
Unfortunately visiting the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas isn't a casual spur of the moment thing. It either involves a high cost or a fair amount of time - or both. It also requires quite a lot of research to make the choice that is best for you between the numerous options (West Rim or South Rim; escorted tour or drive yourself or fly; etc).

However, I'd advise any visitor to Las Vegas who hasn't seen any other places in the USA to take some time to explore beyond the Strip and preferably beyond the city. There are closer places that could be visited such as Red Rocks National Conservation Area, Hoover Dam, Mount Charleston, Valley of Fire State Park and Zion National Park.

I saw someone on Trip Advisor the other day describing Vegas as their 'cabin by the lake', the place they return to where they feel completely happy and at ease - that describes it perfectly to me. I have friends who go to the same cottage in Cornwall/B&B in the lakes etc several times a year yet never hear anyone questioning why they keep going back.

agree with this 100%. I love that we get off the plane and know exactly where we're going, what the next steps are, we know the dos and don'ts, the short-cuts, the general tips...and there are new things for us to discover while we are there, but all the old familiar things are (usually) there if we want them. I know that some people really crave the discovery aspect of going to a new place, and I get that...but I love the general familiarity of Vegas for us.

We do like to gamble and enjoy that aspect of the place. But if that is ALL there was to do, we would never have made so many trips...it's the variety of options that brings us back over and over again. We also don't like to feel like we are rushing around while on holiday, and Vegas allows us to experience everything at our own pace. Some days, we do virtually nothing other than wander around casinos. Other days we're in the car and away all day. It is nice having so many options that do not require pre-commitment, too. When we are on our own, many times we have no idea what we're doing the next day until the point we decide that morning.

We planned to go trips something like 3, 4, 5...and then we gave up planning it as we always ended up scrapping it...it wasn't until trip maybe 10 that we finally made it and that was when we brought the in-laws the first time. :)

Thanks WJ - That's cleared it up,

I suppose its good to have the flexibility to choose whilst over there.

11th trip (2nd this year) coming up over Thanksgiving and I liked your previous post on why we decide to return to Vegas :)

That said, we are back to Benidorm next May, 5th time I think so each to their own...

Ferf do you know if you are going to the air race yet..wish i was.

It's the final race and can still be either bonhome or hall for the title...take your Union flag if you do go and cheer on the Brit, can you be a Brit for the day:D

Indeed - I've done a fair bit of research, down to picking hotels in the south rim area but if and when we go, I don't want to do a long exhausting day and come back feeling we rushed it. It's the fact it would take a couple of days that has caused us to rule it out every time..so far..maybe this summer will be the time!

I can be a Brit for the day, we even have some Union Jack* flags we had for the car during a world cup a few years ago. :)

We are planning on going, but it will be down to how hot it is...as it is mid 30s for the next few days and I think that would be too hot for us...but the forecast has it cooling down, though showers on Sunday...too far out to know for sure. If the temperatures are reasonable, we are planning on going. I think it would be fun. Plus, I hear a rumour that they have fair food there, which was the best thing about NASCAR, I felt. ;)

*my husband has pointed out that I am a crap pseudo-Brit...the flags I am remembering are Cross of St. George.

I've been there a few times too. 4 this year so far. We do have an apartment there though, so its just a cheap flight away whenever I can.
