Ideally yes but it depends how much hassle and perhaps expense might be involved.

Spoken to Virgin who've advised that the 90 minutes should be ample - it's over their recommended transfer time for Atlanta and if it isn't then they'll put us on one of the 3 flights later that day.

I guess I'll just wait and see when I get there...

Fair enough I suppose, just something that has to be accepted unless you want to fight a battle.

FWIW you can look up the average US airport immigration wait times here:
    http://awt.cbp.gov

You might also want to investigate which terminals the flights use, and how to get between them on the airport's web site:

Thanks - I did happen across that website after you first mentioned it may be a problem and the day + time window I'm arriving in seems to look reasonable (Thursday, mid-afternoon).

Have you any experience of the other questions I mentioned in the OP?

Hi, I have transferred in Atlanta with a 1hr.50min window and was sat at my gate waiting for my next plane with an hour to spare, so it really does depend.I hope all goes well :) Papillion are very well known, so don't worry :)

Yes, Papillon have a good name. There are some videos of their trips on YouTube if you want to do some research before choosing.

Thanks - it's all on one ticket with Virgin (and ergo Delta) so I'm covered in that instance. Not horrendously worried as there are another couple of Delta flights later on in the same day. Do you think it's worth trying to change the ticket beforehand?

Don't do this. We allowed too long for a flight change in Huston and ended up paying a change fee to take an earlier flight.

Hello all, I'm just over a month until I finally get to go to Vegas, freaking excited! Have ordered the clarity card and ordered some dollahs as the rate seems pretty decent today...wont look again just in case it goes better!heehee.

Hubby really wants to go to a shooting range for WWII shooting, have found a couple of packages on strip, just wondered if there are any recommendations?

    Thanks!

Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster.

    1) The direct Manchester flights stops as of the end of October so we are flying from Manchester to Atlanta then Atlanta to Vegas - the layover time is 90 minutes. I had naively assumed that the transfer would be similar to somewhere like Schipol, were you disembark airside and then just wander to your next gate, in which case 90 minutes is more than enough. However, from talking to some other people, it seems like this might not be the case - where all the border control checks etc are done when first landing in America (i.e. Atlanta in my case) - meaning 90 minutes might be a bit tight? Any advice / guidance on what the procedure is would be greatly appreciated.

    4) Wondering on what the general guidance is with regards to cash vs currency card? I'm airing towards a FairFX card but will the ATM's out there take a cut whenever I withdraw?

Any help appreciated - can't wait!!

90 minutes should be plenty, Atlanta airport is easy to get around and with other flights the same day even if you do miss it, it isn't a problem.

Check the travelmoney sticky, I use a Clarity Card (halifax) it will give you the best rate on the day you use it,and the only charge is the ATM charge, $1 at casino royale and the small interest charge which can be offset if payed off either straight away or within a few days (i usually wait till I get home)

    2) We have both applied for and been accepted for the ESTA - my only question around this is whether it is linked to my passport number? I can't find anywhere on the Advanced Passenger Information to input it therefore am just working on the assumption that when my passport gets swiped at immigration, it will flash up as linked to an approved ESTA?

Totally correct. Just remember that if you change your passport your ESTA won't be valid.
