Been back a few hours and thought i d catch up with this thread and post a trip report, hoping it ll help a few people

We went to new york on the 4th of june.bad start our flight got cancelled so we were given a new flight, edinburgh to heathrow-las vegas
flight was loooong, what was worse and did not help my mood was the looong queues at imagration, sercurity
did alot of touristy stuff 9/11memorial, top of the rock, central park, times square,we stayed at the sheraton times square
flight frokm newark to vegas was ok.

got to vegas about 7 45(7th june) checked in and went to the casino, staying at the mgm grand for 10nights
    was up and down really

Between my brother and i we redeemed 4 rewards
1 mgm grand buffet for 2.
we liked this, and was free nothing to complain about!:D
2, the mirage, we thought it was 2 for 1 but for some reason they gave us 2 buffets for us *alchol drinks included* my brother loved this!!
3 mandaly bay, was okay, like the mirage the alchol drinks were included
4 the new york roller coaster 2 4 1. i dont think i ve been more scared in my life!! i was shaking a lil afterwards!!

It was very hot most of the days(1 cloudy day) with temputures between 91-107F
done alot of sunbathing, well as much as we could stand.
we also walked about the strip alot too, looking at the different hotels.
we also went up the stratosphere, (about 9pm)
we went to the golden nugget, my brother wanted to go!
we also did the fantasy show which we both loved, and i did the david copperfield show, both were amazing, (I got both show tickets at the ticket booth tix4tonight i think its called?)

had a couple of the big pizza s a couple of the nights,

    Only 2 negitives
when we were checking out of the mgm they were gonna refuned $45 of the $200 i put down wher we checked and i was like what the hell?
I questioned it and somehow managed to add a $90 cobana thing, added a $85 bar tab and somthing else and a coke(which we did charge to our room)
glad to say after i told them the ONLY thing we charged to the room were a coke they sorta backtracked.
the flight home was a real drag, we left the hotel at 8 30am(vegas time) to catch our 11 14 am flight to chicargo and then chicargo to edinburgh and we landed at7 30 am this morning and gee that was a long long long day !!.
If anyone has any questions to ask feel free i ll try answer as much as i can!
    anyone going enjoy the trip:D

I would get yourself to the welcome sign and then hang back there. So you might get daylight and night pictures, then drive up the strip as it gets dark. You might not want to be on the freeways when it's too dark, so if you get to the sign earlyish, just take your time there!

Is it possible to spend your time at the sign (parking etc?)

For those asking about SatNavs, you can download something called NavMii (US version) while you have wifi (or at home), then download the map for the state you want, and it will save it for you, so you can use it without signal.

One tip if you do that, is to search for the places you might want to go when you're connected to the internet, as it's less good at finding places when you're not connected. Then they'll be saved in your recent places for future use.

Takes up a lot of space but great tip, thanks. Could always try and put it on the iPad if it works offline

Northbound there's no obvious parking but I guess it might be possible in the parking lots of the businesses adjacent to the road.
Southbound there's a small parking lot in the centre median. Be careful where you do a U-turn or you might be breaking the law.

You could use up some time with a stop at Primm (on the California/Nevada border).

I know some think StripBurger is overrated (we fell into that camp as thought even with discount it was expensive for what it was, so didn't rush back even with a now-expired restaurant.com certificate), however this seems to look like a decent deal for StripBurger. I've gone for it anyways as makes a good priced, decent meal

    $29 - http://www.travelzoo.com/local-deals/Las-Vegas/Restaurant/179126/Las-Vegas

    Expires 30th Sept

Valid for any two beef / chicken burgers or chilli, any two drinks up to $7.95 each and a side to share :)

Mirage buffet was OK, nothing special.....
Compared to Spice Market for Dinner, it wasn't as good, but for free, it did the trick! :D

I had dreams last night I booked us a flight to go back to Vegas next month, if only!!! I need a lotto win! :D

Thanks. I've managed to get it on myvegas too

We are intentionally coming North bound. Staying at the Venetian and wanted to 'drive up' the strip when it was starting to get dark (7.30pm). Planning on leaving LA at around 2.30pm to avoid rush hour.

It was like what stuie34 said for my brother and i when we went for the mirage buffet but what swayed my brother he loved was the *free* alchol drinks,If i recall he had about 7 glasses of beer!! which made it the buffet rather good for him!!:D

being tea(ok cola ) total i dont drink the booze so it didn't matter to me if there were free beers or not
Like you we got the buffets from myvegas too so always good for a buffet for free!!

Hi StuieUK34, thanks for a great trip report! And congrats on the wins/upgrades :)

Hoping for some advice re car upgrades. I'm aware of the $20 trick for hotel upgrades although I haven't had any luck with it. In all fairness I only try it if I'm feeling confident at the time.

I haven't considered trying to get a car upgrade. Can you give me any basic tips for trying this? I'm going to Vegas in July and have a standard car booked through Dollar through usrentacar.com. When you try for the upgrade, am I right in thinking that you try it with the person sitting where the cars are and not the person at the check in desk?
