Well done for taking mini occ to an ed psych. I did exactly the same with my ds at about the same age. He was also diagnosed with dyslexia, overall his primary school was very helpful but throughout school I did have to keep arranging meetings etc to ensure he was getting the help he needed. It paid off in the end and he got good GCSE results and is now in sixth form.

That's so great to hear about your DS I have initially had a bad reaction from teacher, hopefully things will calm down. I have meeting arranged for Friday with teacher. Any advise on things I can ask for would be helpful. Assessor also recommended yellow overlays and pencil grips so might start there.

I remember it was mainly a case of keeping on top of it and asking for him to have one to one help with a TA. Then at secondary school it was a case of making sure he got assessed so he qualified for a reader and extra time in exams. At one time I despaired of him ever getting a grade c or above in Maths & English. It was a nightmare at times but you have recognised the issue while he is young which is good.

Thanks that's very useful information. He tells me today (he rarely remembers anything they do at school) that the electronic whiteboard had been turned yellow as had all his paperwork at school. He was extremely happy about that as he could read it better :) that's a very encouraging start.

Money wise a couple of ££ spent on a new flask :)
  • Just home from work, it's stocktake weekend and we decided to just crack on with it and completed at 10pm tonight! No stocktake tomorrow though!

Today mini won player of the week at football for the first time ever! It's only taken 18 months! He was super chuffed! He also filled his marble rewards jar so £15 for his treat spend today.

No other spends except footie subs of £3.
  • Today consisted of Football friendly match first thing £2 subs which was a draw and mini scored 4 of the 6 goals. He was very tired and not working that hard but could outrun all their players over a short distance so did very well anyhow. Half of the team were out late at a 7th birthday party the night before so a little jaded.

We've spent the afternoon in, doing homework, eating and dozing. We are all tired after stocktakes and parties.

Am thinking need to be really aggressive with the OP's as I don't think mini will thrive at the local high school so will need to have all our options open in 3 years. Need to really focus on that right now

Just catching up with diaries and with it progress with your son. Sometimes you just have to be straight with teachers and tell them how it is, and how its going to be!

Wise words thanks SJ and ALK for support.

Money wise not so great this month what with the assessment and growth spurt. OP currently standing at about £400 so far but hope to add at least another £100 in the next couple of days.

Savings all intact and I've saved full £250 from personal spends so far again this month. £100 refer a friend bonus has arrived from nationwide in my account so it's getting near the £2500. Will have to keep a check in that! Natwest account ready but too busy to get organised will try tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow is cricket but everything paid for this by the BF last week:) on a plus note the GP's have offered to pay for minis irlens syndrome screening and glasses. His dyslexia assessment gives a very high probability of him needing them and he is doing really well with the yellow overlays, a further indication that he has irlens syndrome. It's s relief GP are paying. He also tells me he has read every gold level book in the school so will be moving onto the next level on Friday when we swap over.

Will do a monthly update end of week but all is looking okay, although not great like last month!

    Monthly Update coming up

    Balance stands at £121,780

Capital Reduction £1120 (under my £1333.33 target but okay)

OP's this month £549.92 (slightly less than I was hoping for)

    Interest paid this month £250.75
    Interest paid April 2015 £282.91
    £32.16 Less interest paid in 2016 :)

Daily interest is now £8.09 10p less than last month :)

    ST savings increased by £616.91
    LT savings increased by £1191.36
School/Annual Bills Savings increased by £212.04
Total increase in savings £2023.31 (another good month)

Next month I am aiming for £600 OP target again.

Have opened a 3rd regular saver to see if I can add to that too. I'm hoping to save an additional £250 PM from our available dividends. This will be OP'd or put into a savings account (if rate is higher than mortgage) at the end of the 12 months regular saver term.

Smaller part of the mortgage should drop below 30000 this month so that's a good milestone. The following month the other part should drop below £90000 so thats a couple of milestones in a couple of months.
