My Iron has just packed up (with 2 HUGE baskets full of clothes and away on holiday this weekend!) I'm going to have to get a new one ASAP and wonder which one is best? I don't want to spend a fortune, but nor do I want to get the cheapest only to find out that is doesn't last too long.
Any info appreciated.

Two I wouldn't recommend - The Tesco 'own brand' one that's about £16/£17 (not the value one, it's the more expensive one). That started blowing my electrics after a couple of months. Also wouldn't recommend the Breville one that's about £18/£19. I'm on my second one and it's leaking in exactly the same way as the first. Not good.
My last iron before those was (I think) a Rowenta one, and that was pretty good, and lasted for a few years. My parents have a Rowenta one too and don't have any problems. I think you can get a decent one for £25 ish.0 -
After having a Tefal for 10 years, I was shocked how expensive they are now. i bought a 'Ohn?' one from Asda a year ago for £10/11 and am very pleased with it.0

Tesco have £20 off their own make steam generator iron, bringing it down to just under £40 - I bought one yesterday and it's fab - it also has a removable water tank so you can take it to the tap to refill it - seems like a good buy!0

Am looking at purchasing a steam generated iron, have seen the Tefal TVGV7150 has good reviews, Does anyone have one of these or can you recommend one that is not too heavy to use. Also do I need to purchase a special ironing board to use with it.Jan Grocery challenge

hiya,
there are couple of posts on this site re tefal iron.

I have a Tefal. It's very good, but in my opnion it would be better if it had a stainless steel plate. The non-stick one tends to get black and is difficult to clean. Great steam though. I bought a Morphy Richards one before this because it was cheaper but it was rubbish. I had to take it back to the shop and get my money back as the water used to pour out of it. The more bars of pressure the better.
It's better if you're ironing board is mesh. I would go for a bigger sturdier board. Even if the iron rest isn't big enough you can put the generator bit on the floor (If you iron sitting down) or on the kitchen worktop if you do it standing up. Mine isn't a special board but it's big enough to hold the whole tank and iron.0
