Thanks everyone.
Just to prove how great this site is...
dogrose I took your advice on steam generator, yes it's expensive but hopefully will last another 20 yrs.
Original cost of Morphy Richards 42271 Steam Generator iron £79.94 but reduced to £69.94 in tesco, who I went with cos I'm saving points.
With delivery total cost was £74.98 so 74 points which will work out at £2.96 in clubcard vouchers. Got a code for £10 off and went through quidco for another £3.50 back. So final total came to £64.98 and due £6.46 back thru other routes...
Oh and I used M&S credit card so that's another 30p or so there.
Before I would have just gone into comet or something...it's amazing the difference it can make buying more cannily.
thanks everyone0 -
I know that this is hi-jacking a thread, but you all seem to know your irons so I thought that I'd ask how you iron small things like the yokes of shirts and blouses or the bit where cuffs attach with the great big irons? I use a non steam extreme cheapy and have problems even with that - some times I seem to make as many creases in the wrong places as I remove!0

Love a bargain at that price it's almost worth picking up to have as a backup! Except that alas we don't have morrisons in Northern IrelandNor Waitrose which I always thought sounded great till I realised how expensive they were...

HI,
I just got a steam generator from Robert Dyas after doing much research. It is brilliant and the cheapest place I could find it even with delivery. It is so easy to use and I swear you can do twice as much in half the time. No I dont work for them or Rusell Hobbs, but it is superb. I would pay the extra money for it again.

£49.99 + p & p £5Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
hope you and your new iron will be very happy
I have a russel hobbs one, got it half price in comet because it was an older model. and at the time mr dogrose was saying..."how much  "
but even he likes using it. and it really does half the time. most items even jeans iron both sides at once.
it was people at work who said to me to get one.....nearly everyone there has one!x x x0 -
Apologies for hijacking a thread and this is probably quite ridiculous but I can't iron to save my life...:o
I end up putting more creases than when I started or singe something by accident. I've given up on ironing but if anyone can help me out with tips or a website for this it would be great. :cool:0 -
I've found that steam generator irons are excellent and save a lot of time with ironing.
Having the right tool for the job makes a lot of difference. So if you're using a rubbish iron you might well end up finding it very difficult to obtain good results. I tried a £5 Iron that my parent's lent me and it was no use whatsoever.Happy chappy0 -
I have a steam generator iron & It's great, but I also bought a cheap iron from Currys last week, it was £4.39 I keep it upstairs so I can press as I sew.
Misskool there may be an Ironing Instruction on Video Jug, but I'm not sure, but your iron may be too hot if you are singeing stuff
