Start a Petition
ok, call me stupid, tell me it is a complete waste of time....
There are substantial numbers of consumers engaged in wrangles with their banks over this issue.
Is there nothing that we as consumers can do regarding this OFT test case? Surely there should have been some public consultation? It appears that the banks and the OFT have been secretly plotting this....
I personally suggest a joint effort between MSE and the CAG and any other consumer groups to either petition or do a march or something.
The establishment is taking the mickey here big time.
Am I getting all stupidly revolutionary or do people agree?
How about a petition to start? Perhaps an eloquent MSE member or CAG member could draft a serious petition and perhaps we could all get off our backsides and get behind it? Rather than accepting this with a shrug.

ok I said my piece.0 -
Is it me or have the Abbey had wind of this for a while? they have been dragging their heals throughout
But yeah, they didn't just decide on this yesterday - it's clearly been in the pipeline for some time with the banks consciously deciding to exclude Consumer Action Group and MoneySavingExpert from the discussions. After all, as Martin said on CH4 last night, these consumer groups only represent 2 million consumers :rolleyes:0 -
Does anyone know? Will it be today (straight after the hearing) or will it be some time away.
Is there a timescale around at all?0 -

Hi
I am claiming against HSBC and they have told me they are freezing all claims under 8 weeks old (mine is only 4 days away!). I asked how long they would be frozen and they told me 'at the most A YEAR'!
Not sure if other banks are saying the same but the Financial Ombudsman Service states 'it may take some time'.
Looks like we are in for a long wait......0 -
OK, apologies if there is something important on pages 2 to 6 but i spotted a couple of things worth noting.
1) Peterboro, thank god you picked connor up on that view. I entirely disagreed with his point of view(and I have never been charged).
2) Those who have had their cases stayed in the courts need to remember that while it is stayed, their case is earning interest at s.69, 8% interest(lovely jubbly when they are found to be unlawful).
3) People should continue to send letters in and failure to do so means that they should be suing the bank.
4) The FOS will still look at bank charges for those who are in financial hardship. That is, where charges eat into their benefits directly.
5) Keep the chins up because if the law allows unfair penalties in contract law then I must have moved to cloud cuckoo land.0 -
what are they classing as hardship? I'm a single mum with 20month old twins and was supposed to be hearing from the bank this week with their offer!0

That is correct and something sadly was not specifically emphasised enough by the OFT. So from hope to a kick in the teeth and some may have given up, remember the hardest hit and yet they could have continued.0

HSBC today paid out one of my settlement acceptance forms for £394 (100% charges no interest) and the other which I amended to include an upcoming charge they have advised me will also be processed - time will tell.
I was basically told they are honouring any offers they have made and with the staff available now other claims are suspended he felt they should be actioned fairly quickly.0 -
My son has just had a letter back from The Nationwide after sending in a claim.
They said No, they're not going to pay, and if you don't come back to them, they'll keep the file open for 56 days.
The next letter I was going to send was the one that threatens court action.
What should I do now??:huh:0 -
