I could have sworn that I'd been on here since Christmas - perhaps I did but just didn't update my own diary! Anyhow, we had a lovely day, fairly quiet and it revolved completely around DS opening pressies, cooking, and eating chocolate! We normally get a few bottles of wine from people, but I suppose that because I'm not drinking at the moment everyone gave us chocolate instead. Am I complaining?! DH and I kept it fairly small/cheap for each other, but he got me a few lovely bits & bobs, and seemed happy with the bargains that I'd collected over the year for him! Parents gave us £150 which was lovely as well, and will be put to use in the sales. I know it would possibly be better spent on debt, but when someone gives you cash like that, it's instead of giving you a naff gift you mightn't like, to be spent on a gift that you do like instead - they don't do it to pay your water bill or a tank of petrol! So we'll hang on for now and buy ourselves something nice in the sales - possibly a stereo, or maybe we'll sell old laptop and add it to that to buy better one.

Its 10p listing day on Ebay today, so I should really be sending my stuff to auction rather than sitting here. On that note, I'm off! If anyone sees my light on, please shout at me!

I'm really pleased with myself - I have just completed and submitted my tax return!

Been trying to ignore it for the past few months, as all I had was the obligatory bin bag full of receipts and junk, which I finally finished sorting out. Had a panic moment at 1am when I didscovered I didn't have a P60, but found it in a pile of junk at work this morning. I really need to be more organised with paperwork - New Year's Reso No 1! Spent the day at work filing it online (my accountant has been as much use as a chocolate fireguard, so given him the boot. Must tell him that - Reso 2!).

The really good news is that it's calculated that THEY owe ME £892! :j
Even better (in tax respects anyway) I made a trading loss on self-employment of around £18k, and about £12k of that will carry forward to next year, so hoping to get a few thousand back in tax next time round as well. Fingers crossed that they can make sense of my figures and don't do a full investigation. It's all honest (to the best of my ability, I didn't really understand half the questions!), but the back-up paperwork is still a total mess that only I could understand.

Anyone know how long they take to let you know if they're happy with your figures, and how long before they send the refund? It asked for my bank details to pay straight in there, but somehow I'm not expecting to see it there in the next few days!

Why is it that every thread I look at seems to be talking about chocolate?!! I think I'm quite safe actually - we're down to the dregs of the tins of Choc orange and Toblerone - i.e. only the dark choc ones left - and there's no danger of me eating those!

Great idea Lunar about blitzing the paperwork. I feel as though it is a massive weight off my shoulders having done it, and I'm looking forward to going home tonight to just chuck the entire lot in a box to forget about until such times as I can either bin it or (hopefully not) drag it all out and try and make the bits of paper match what I put on the forms!

So glad it isn't just me that's clueless though!

Good news on being due a tax rebate. I really want to get my tax up to date before I start my proper job, otherwise I am sure they will charge me emergency rate tax......so there's an incentive to add it to my ever growing pile of things I should be doing today instead of sitting on the sofa scoffing chocolates!

Have a happy New year, and hope that finally the house shifts and that the SPD settles xx

Oh crap. Hypno, your good wishes might just have had a result, but it's slightly off-timing!!!

DH just rung in a panic to say that some bloke wants to come and see the house tomorrow (yes, that is the same tomorrow as New Year's Day!). Furthermore, he's already accepted an offer on his own house to a cash buyer - this is exactly what we've been waiting for since March!

Just didn't expect to see him on the 1st of Jan - maybe the New Year is going to bring bright prospects!

The bad news is that the house is a total tip, worse than it's ever been. There's loads of stuff lying everywhere from Christmas that we haven't found a place for yet, the study is a mass of bits of paper on every surface (floor included), there's a mountain of washing and I haven't hoovered for about a fortnight. Come to think of it, I haven't done anything around the house since the SPD started in earnest. I haven't even been up to the top floor in the past couple of months. Aaaaargh!

Oh well, I'll get home about 7 or 8 tonight for a mad crazy tidy and clean, and it looks as though I might actually get the clean house I wanted for the New Year after all!

Thanks. Now, I just need you to wish that he'll make an offer. In fact, make that an offer that's 80k above the asking price - that would be nice!

My fingers are well and truly crossed.

If I was nearer, I would nip over and help you with the housework......I am good at things like that ;)
