  • Picture the scene.... new cooker arrived today (shattered glass door on old one) and it is too big for the space.... well I thought I had measured it.

So everyone round to my partner's mum but I will be taking all the food with me, ready prepared to go in the oven.

    A lovely not-buying-it moment.....

My DS, aged 16, has received £50 combined pocket money and Christmas money from his Grandad. My OH, a shopaholic, has just seen some lovely Ben Sherman boots on the Bay of E, reduced from £105 to £32. He showed them to DS who said, "No thanks." OH said "Why not?"
DS said "Haven't got the money."
OH said "You've got that 50 quid."

And DS said, wait for it,....."No, I'm saving that in case I need it in the future."

    THAT'S MA BOY!!!!!!!!!

  • Merry Christmas everyone, finally all we have left to do is prepare the veg for tomorrow and best frugal part of today was a trip to W8rose with only one basket for the few things I actually needed and being aware of soooooo many other people with trollies piled high and frantic phone calls being made about 'Do we need this ....... as there are only 2 left on the shelf?' DD1 and I walked there and walked home again in the sunshine, had the wartime based lunch we'd planned back in the summer with homegrown veg and homemade pud which we thoroughly enjoyed and I've just finished ironing and put away the 3rd line load of washing so it looks as if we're done! Have yourselves a wonderful Christmas and enjoy every frugal second of it to the full, Lyn xxx.

Haven't been out today (thankfully). But doesn't mean it's not been stressful lol even though I gave the kids a box of xmas goodies today (xmas themed colouring books, game, 'wintery' bubble bath, not choc for tonight, new pjs) and tried to factor in a few Christmas movies, they have still been hyper and carrying on lol.

Had a look at a lot of the online sales today, didn't buy anything much. One DD wanted to use some Christmas money for a new hoody and I bought her a wooly hat from the same place when I put the order through nothing else from anywhere else was worth paying the delivery fee for. (Place I ordered from was free delivery)

This is a huge achievement for me who usually feels like I've got to buy 'everything' before its 'gone'

    Hello :)

Lots of names on here I recognise, and what a great thread and first post, Slowdown, thank you! I'm definitely joining. I have a diary on mfw, but I need the inspiration of a community and going about things positively.

Noticing a lot of people these days who don't have a tv - I stopped paying for the licence earlier this year, I just use the tv for DVDs - got the link to the satellite strapped up and out of the way, in case some toerag claims I'm using it :)

I've just read the first ten pages, and skipped to the end to subscribe - I've been making notes too - after all these years on mse, there's still new stuff :j thank you peeps

One extra thing for Not Buying that I'm thinking about is mending, like at the top of this page - new socks that have a single hole in, that sort of thing.

Furoshiki sounds really interesting too - though not cheaper, which for me at the moment sort of defeats the point :o but all of this has got my brain buzzing with ideas.

Subscribing - happy Christmas and New Year to all, and I'll meet you all properly soon :)

:D I wore a new-to-me silk shirt today, a lovely Mons00n one. Cast-off from a pal. Really suited me, too.
I'm on page 14 right now, I think :j I have a gorgeous silk tunic from Monso0n that I haven't worn for ages... I think shopping in my wardrobe is going to be quite an experience :j

Well, I'm 1.5 baths in, of 3! And the kiddos are starting to calm down

Then to let them have their hot choc and cookies and off to bed

Then I shall have a 'wee' baileys or two (don't often buy in drink, and baileys is so bad for you calorie wise too (not that I've been minding those of late) that I do only get it in at Christmas time (and not because I feel i 'should' because it's christmas lol).....and then drag the mountains of presents out their hiding places. (Yes, I've not gone OS this Christmas, if anything I've gone OTT, but I'm only just learning to change my behaviours

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas time however you choose to spend it x

the children have gone to their paternal grandparents along with ExH and I am beyond glad LOL! They have been unbeareable, far too excited to behave, bickering making mess everywhere, refusing to help at all.......

but ahh, the peace and rest now, I have given them their christmas Pj's and clothes early to take with them, and am now wrapping their presents. the christmas tree is sailing on a sea of presents and the kids aren't even having christmas here - it seems not to matter how clear I am to not go mad they do - colleagues at work buy my children gifts - which is lovely of them but I have asked them firmly not to. and my mother! I carefully get the children to choose a gift between 20-30 pounds max, and yet she must spend hundreds on them on random stuff.

clearly it is their decision what they give and how much they spend but my oh my!

So I've put half of the gifts I've bought them back into bags to go into the loft for their birthdays.

Happy christmas everyone hope it is restful and happy :)
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
