My SC has been occupied with a bottle of red wine, infused with spices to transform it into mulled wine 'cos it's Christmas, the past few days. Each evening either I or myself (if I was out working) would switch the SC onto warm and I would have a wee glass before bed... 'cos it's Christmas.

Well I have decided I don't even like the stuff so next year I will have summat I like to mark the cosy evening festivities.

Must have mulled wine 'cos it's Christmas? Where have I got that idea from? I hardly drink anyway!

Hi Slowdown, I too would like to join you. We paid off our debts this year and our house is (fingers crossed) sold and should complete soon. I'm in a strange situation though.

We moved from Manchester to Kent to look after my mother-in-law. She pays for food and bills - though we do buy quite a bit of 'stuff' on top up (mainly from Approved food).

We should be saving most of our money and we're not. We live on esa and dla and as I now have a small pension from a previous employer, my esa has dropped by the amount of the pension - which I receive monthly - each fortnight, so our money has dropped, but we should be saving. I know that I fritter money away - it will stop - now.

    Ailz

    Merry Christmas

  • GQ I hope everything is sorted with your washer.

Just got to go to the doctor this morning and then I am in total hibernation until after Christmas, it is great knowing that I don't need to spend another penny :D

Have a lovely Christmas everyone xxxxx

Morning maties! Happy Christmas Eve to all the crew - going to be quiet here and weather looking fair so far so a planned walk with dog is in order. I intend to smile and greet all other dog walkers and peeps alike there will be no grumpy queues down the wreck.
This afternoon will be a bit more hectic with last minute cleaning and some cooking to prepare for my host tomorrow and a vat of chilli tonight for the brood.
I was so saddened by the news from Glasgow and hope the families find some comfort in each other at this awful time.

Thank you to everyone who provided links to their favourite blogs - so much to read and digest, can't wait.

Hello everyone. I have been enjoying a quiet lurk since this thread started but would like to join in now if that's ok.
We have simplified a lot over the past 5 years, had a few positive changes including and moving back to Scotland. I loved living in England (Suffolk) but wanted the move back 'home'.
This thread is heart-warming and I love the encouragement you are giving each other. I'm looking forward to being a good steward of our money in 2015.

  • Ahoy shipmates.
I have been an absent captain these last few days as I'm away for Christmas and there is no WiFi.

I'm delighted people are still creeping up the gang plank to join our merry crew and equally delighted to see this thread has changed people so soon. I can say it has changed me too. I'm staying in a place where the shops and extras are extremely tempting. I have always succumbed in the past but not this time!! Not a penny has been spent on 'stuff'.

I will probably be incommunicado for a while again so here is wishing all my shipmates a very merry Christmas day.

    Kindest regards
    Slowdown:)
  • ahoy chums and fellow shipmates I too will be away from later today until the New Year.I am knee deep in cooking at the moment and have taked five minutes off to wish each and everyone of you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful Healthy new year I know we will be a bit more prosperous as we will all rein in our previous daft spending and become model thrify matelots
Take care evryone and enjoy the holidays with what ever you are doing
    Cheers JackieO xxx
  • I'm another one who is smiling at how this thread has shifted my thinking. Since I started reading a couple of weeks ago I have been cleaning and polishing my favourite boots each weekend (they are lovely leather and I'm determined to keep them that way); I've dug out two pairs of shoes to get reheeled when the shops open after Christmas and I will spend part of this afternoon repairing a rip in an old shirt that I really like. Changed days!

Hello wmf, by strange coincidence I was looking at some links you posted ages ago about mindfulness. I'm hoping to get my act together and practice more in the coming months.

I do have to confess though that I *love* mulled wine! So I'll maybe have a wee glass later on depending on how the shirt-mending goes.

Have a lovely Christmas Eve everyone.
  • Ive spent the morning putting ads on gumtree, even if I just get a token amount, will rid me of some more stuff I really dont need, now just off to the PO to post something I sold on ebay and off out to see my mum in a wee while.
