NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Merry Christmas to everyone.
Haven't spent since Saturday so all good here except the PC won't let me into my user profile so I am having to access through OH's. Same PC so doesn't make sense to me and I can't get it fixed until after Christmas. I am not happy as even if a friend sorts it out we will still have to give him a drink and if I have to take it to the computor shop it will be another £40 the same as it was a couple of months ago for the same thing. :mad:Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0 -
:smileyhea Happy rescue hens - what a lovely thought :j
thriftwizard, thanks for the tips on furoshiki: I'm very into using up untouched stashes at the moment - gravy salt and coconut oil are two of the things I've got on the go at the moment. So using up a material stash appeals to me. I've been using up a gift bag stash this year, and thats gone pretty well - as for the material, even if I don't use it for gifts, but for something else, its still a win. Actually I have a huge tablecloth sort of lace/crochet I bought in Africa almost 20 years ago, completely unused, that could look really amazing as gift wrapping
Thats it, I'm on my way.
Thank you all. Happy Christmas!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
What a fabulous idea for a thread! I'll join you all and try to reduce my stash of...well, everything! From the larder and fridge which are bursting at the seams, to my wardrobe, suitcases, and every other corner in this house!
I'm also trying to save for a house deposit so buying less 'stuff' would have double benefits, not to mention fewer moving costs. :j :j2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30000 -

If you've got the wet things on the airer over the bath then hopefully the problem can be ignored whilst you enjoy a few days rest. Maybe a bit of research on common problems will identify an easy fix that will save you some cash (fingers crossed) and give you that warm glow of achievement.
Came home from work via Co-op and picked up a couple of YS bits for tea, with a bunch of roses (also YS) it came to a total £1.84. I have about a tenner in my purse that I want to see if I can make last a week. The only expected purchase is a couple of drinks in the village pub tomorrow night.
What I need to do is find a good budgeting app for my phone to keep track of available funds. I use a notebook but I've not always been very conscientious with it. Any recommendations? (Preferably free please!)
There is a free app available, aswell as paid. You set your budget up via the pc and then use the app for transactions in/out and to check balance.

Happy Christmas everybody, we will eat in about an hour, have been to visit OHs SIL.....his brother died in September, house seemed very lonely but they are ok
Christmas gifts have been many and welcome, thankfully nobody has gone overboard moneywise so am happy about that.
Have a lovely time, whether with family/friends or alone

That first Christmas after a bereavement ... awful. It never really gets "easier", I don't think, just bearable ... thinking of all those dealing with that today, as well as children hyper with sugar!
I started up a huge list to "take advantage" of the sales, spend £40 at Wilko and get free delivery (or is it £50? Anyway). 100 tealights that burn for an average of 3.5 hours, that *is* good for £2, especially as I've made myself a candle heater. I'm going to need a cordless screwdriver some time this year, but I don't know when, and I don't *have* to have it now. Nor do I need pyrex basins, church candles, a jam pan (my stock pan will be fine), or a stainless steel kettle (I do need a new kettle, this "new" one is leaking, but I have a fantastic travel kettle thats 20 years old, which I used to use every day, I can go back to that). So all I'm going to spend is £2, and I won't spend that till I go past the nearest store.
Result for Not Buying It In 2015 :j
ETA - I *have* bought a jam rack, to can safely. £7.36, been planning that for ages, ever since the summer.

Merry christmas everyone
As I said before I had to buy work trousers the other day for £12.99, but as I got £40 this morning I'm actually up so all is good. I had a nice little haul for christmas, including a few larger craft projects to keep me occupied and off spending.
Now the question is, as the money I received today is christmas money, should I be able to spend it on what I want with no guilt?0 -
Very basic christmas here and it's been pleasant.
Looked at my FB "friends and family" and for the first time ever I felt sicken by the commercial tat and waste people had in their photos. Yes I did indulge DS but with items needed or to enhance his life.
I asked him what his favourite part of the day was and it was chatting to big sis on Skype and watching our dog run in circles with her jingle bell collar we made. Think that summed it all up really.
He's now watching Doctor Who and I am here thinking I'm just reaching the very best years of my life.
Merry Christmas All and I hope you too have a chance to reflect as I have x0
