Just a quick one & maybe it's already been said but I suddenly thought today I bet this is the only NSD that 90% of the population will have this year, & most years. I'd love to know what that statistic looks like for the population of this thread. I don't religiously track NSDs but I probably have 4 a week at least. Not including travel spending, DDs, etc. But it made me wonder whether it's something that has crept into the mainstream yet? We seem to have a national day for everything. Wouldn't it be great if we had regular no spend days nationally. Anyway end of ramble" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Will it be though? In times gone by maybe but when boxing day sales start online today i think there will be more spending than usual0 -

As I said before I had to buy work trousers the other day for £12.99, but as I got £40 this morning I'm actually up so all is good. I had a nice little haul for christmas, including a few larger craft projects to keep me occupied and off spending.
Now the question is, as the money I received today is christmas money, should I be able to spend it on what I want with no guilt?I have problems with this and often find I haven't spent my present money on anything present-ish, it's just slumped into the general run of things.
This year, I don't want to do that, so have put it in a purse dedicated for that purpose only, which will live in the handbag, and the money inside will be used for little treats.
I only have two purchases planned thus far, a cinema ticket and a shooting glove (specialist bit of sporting equipment for archery) which I will buy in January. The rest is all to play for, with the aim to be maximum fun for my present pounds.
We've been having a chilled out Christmas day, just the right amount of food without shading into gluttony, everyone seems pleased with their presents, which are mostly books, and we've had a walk in the countryside on the edge of town.
Tomorrow will be a similar day, but with half the family decamping for the day to Nan's. we won't all fit so the other two of us will visit in a few days time, we chatted on the phone this afternoon.
I have had a happy time salvaging the salvagable crimble paper, removing selloptape from the bits to be recycled and generally reducing wastefulness to the bare minimum. The recycling wheelie outside is already three-quarters full, so will deffo be bursting with recycling by the time January comes around. It's all good.
Oh, and Mum is pulling out an injured sweather and I am reknitting it into a blanket, with the two things happening at the same time. She better get a wriggle on, I shall soon need some of the second colour.......
Peaceful times and no shopping until possibly some milk on Saturday.
Keep it chilled and low-key, we all need to have some rest as well as some revelry. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas day!
Here we had a day of two halves - morning with my little family then lunch out with other family - now relaxing in PJ's and reflecting on the day. Have no leftovers so menu planning as normal although did bag some YS goods yesterday from W***rose which were a huge chicken, lots of veg and some bread which has been sorted and frozen. At one point there was a shuffle and what looked like a scrum starting as items were reduced, I had to get out it was suffocating (and a bit scary).
emslovesmickey - I agree that the ads are revving up and some sales are live now online hoping to prise the last bit of money out of us consumers whilst we are apparently still in the 'buying frenzy' of Christmas. Well I am not buying it and will spend the rest of the evening watching films, have a lovely peaceful evening all.
Wonder how many of us had a NSD today? I did and plan on more in the coming weeks and months.January 2020 Grocery challenge £119.45/£200
February 2020 Grocery challenge £195.22 /£200
March 2020 - gone to pot...
April 2020 - £339.45/£200
May 2020 - £194.99/£3000 -
I have subscribed to this thread from the start and read each post, I may not add much to the conversation, but I am definitely along for the trip, I need to do this for myself, I am sick and tired of listening to people saying, ooh I must have the new 'whatever' thing that is popular and I think to myself, WHY?
I am a bit grumpy about it all to be honest, and I am tired of explaining to people who ask, what did you do, where did you go, I just want to shout out, to all around me, I did nothing and went no where, now leave me alone!
Obviously this attitude will not do me any favours so I keep it to myself and silently scream!!!
So I am along for the trip, I hope the weather is fair and we don't get too sea sick
Brilliant thread and I am enjoying getting to know you all.
Christmas here was very low key and no one moaned, so I count that as a success I hope you have all had a lovely day.Been here for a long time and don't often post

I didn't have a no spend day, bought some cat food, but last night's takeaway was 9 pounds for 2 of us. Tonight's was 10.30 as the delivery charge was more expensive.
But not bad. Haven't sat and stuffed my face all day. I was 25 kgs heavier 18 months ago and even though I was two stones heavier last year than now even then I didn't sit and eat like mad just because it was Christmas. We bought some savoury snacks but they'll keep for hogmanay. And my mums pet rabbit has been stuffing her face with veg all day. I made a big pot of soup. All from the yellow stickered veg I bought.
I got some lovely presents and hopefully my family liked what I gave them. The Glasgow bin lorry crash really brought home to me is that as long as I have my family, all is well.
Thoughts to everyone involved, still so tragic.0 -

Well I'm joining you in the NSD camp. I find something unsavoury about buying stuff today. There is nothing in particular I want at the moment and more than that, I do not have the urge to spend. So maybe I'll hold tight to that £40 until there is something.0 -
Good point Em. I hadn't thought about online. I think I had the thought when out on our walk we passed the eerie sight of sainsburys, next, mcdonalds, Toysrus, & pets at home completely empty and still. But in the case of mcdonalds all lights blazing still. No cars parked in the large retail park they all sit around. Just acres of empty grey concrete. And us on our shortcut from the park. I even said to my son how I remember every Sunday being like that. And I'm only 36. But I remember when shops switched to Sunday opening. Anyway. Other than xmas day there isn't a single day I can think of when the shops are all completely shut. Wait for the stampede tommorow..." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Good evenin':rotfl: Do hope you've all had a good Christmas day. Ours has been a very simple affair with my parents and son. We shared the cooking as usual and we were able to buy a lovely piece of free range beef from an independent butcher in the town with the savings I had made elsewhere. Pud was a pavlova made by Mum with our home grown raspberries that we had frozen and saved. We're not fans of Christmas pud and there doesn't seem to be any point in eating food you don't enjoy just for the sake of it.I want to enjoy our special meal:j
Received some lovely thoughtful gifts including a sugar thermometer which I'd asked for and a second hand book of gifts to make from your kitchen. We don't go overboard as many items were in pristine condition but had come from the charity shop eg a puzzle still in its original wrapping for Mr GBT. I'd made limoncello, preserved lemons and bath muffins for my parents [and a couple of local beers for my Dad] and sister and her partner and they all seemed pleased with my efforts.
I've been dressed in my new outfit today...that'll be a pack of unworn but opened tights in my size that a client gave me because they didn't fit her and she couldn't return them, a red jumper bought from the reduced rail in the CS for £1.25 and a snazzy glitzy red, silver and black scarf that the small person bought for me from the CS £2.50. We did push the boat out and buy new for the small person because he's 16 but we only spent what we'd normally spend. We got him some speakers because he didn't have any, a bike lock [using doubled up Tesco vouchers to reduce the cost] Lynx shower gel [courtesy of Savers...refuse to buy it normally instead give him what I would spend on toiletries for him and expect him to shop around to get the best deal on teh names he wants] and a mirror from the CS. The last one was a bit of a joke because he's always in our room doing his quiff in our room:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: The stocking contents came from £land and were all either edible or useful.
We didn't watch any TV. Everyone helped clear up and we went out for a walk in between lunch and the main meal. We mainly nattered enjoying not having to rush off but be able to spend time together as a family.

I have been seriously thinking about using our garden to produce fruit and vegetables for us to eat. I have tried this in the past, but not very successfully. I hope in the new year to have another go at this. I have been thinking about buying some books to help me with this, but when perusing my bookcase today I saw a book about growing veg, so I don't need to go shopping after all.
I do think I am going to need some support though, as neither I nor OH are very green fingered.£1000 Emergency Fund #175 - £598/£1000
