Good Day to all.
We are officially broke until 31st, with £20 in our pockets for gas and electric (key meter) so christmas day dinner is going to be a ramshackle affair of whatever we've got in LOL Quite looking forward to the surprise of it all.
Instead of continuing to bum myself out over it, the past 2 days have been dedicated to me completing 15 job applications and baking a cinnamon bread cake which is epically delicious.
My online group secret santa was delivered and open and I now have a lovely seed storage box with 25 packets of seeds for veg to grow next year, and seedling trays, which makes me very happy as I'd love to focus again on growing this year. I managed a fair bit last year, all organically. Then end of the season we've dug out everything so that we could plan it more effectively so its just dirt at the moment. That should help me stay out of the supermarkets longer term tooWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Just back from Sainsburys, it was busy but not ridiculous. I enjoyed my browse, picked up a few extra stocking fillers for the boys, just toiletries for them to try. I will turn them into sweet smelling metrosexuals yet:rotfl:
I was standing in the checkout queue and could hear the couple behind me, the woman whinging about having to wait in the queue. What does she expect - having the place to herself .:rotfl::rotfl:
Actually I didn't think it was too bad at all.
One of the assistants came round and handed out chocolates to all those who were waiting at the checkout, I thought that was a nice touch. It even sweetened the sour faced woman behind me.
I'm often tempted to say to people like this that they should count their blessings, they still have each other to share Christmas with. There are so many people who are alone, or who have lost loved ones, who would, I'm sure, love the opportunity to stand in a queue their trolly loaded with festive goodies to share with people they love and care about.
Purpleshoes - if you and your mum are happy with your takeaway then that's all that matters. It's your Christmas for you to celebrate as you please. How you spend it is your affair. Don't let interfering busy bodies spoil it for you. Sod 'em.0 -
I had a surprise on Sat the13th, my DD and her OH arrived from Manchester. I didnt know they coming the OH did. They went home yesterday, we had a lovely time sitting around talking and relaxing.
We didnt spend much at all and her OH loves to cook so he took over the kitchen for the week.
They left a few presents for us.
We dont need to buy much, maybe milk but thats it we have everything we need.
I am looking forward to starting this challenge in the new year.:TNot buying it in 2015:T:T:T0 -

This year, it was going to be just hubby, youngest son and myself for christmas, but hubby mentioned that one of his friends from work was going to be alone this year. Her husband died a few years ago.
When I heard that, I told him to invite her, and she was thrilled to bits.
We went to the farmer's market yesterday and picked up a huge gammon joint, some cheeses and nice bread.
Got to do Tesco's this evening. Not looking forward to that, but after that, we only need to collect the turkey from the butchers.
I'm supposed to be going to the hospital on Wednesday for bloods, but I think I'm coming down with hubby's cold, so it (and the chemo on Saturday) might have to be postponed for a week. It's my last chemo session, so a weeks delay isn't a problem. Just hope I'm not as bad with the cold as hubby was, as he spent 2 days in bed. I shall have to have a hot toddy tonight.0 -
Forgot to say I got the book
Living on Less by Mary Lambert from the library.
So will make a :coffee: and have a read. Not buying it in 2015:T:T:T0 -
purpleshoes wrote: »Thank you. Wait until Christmas Day, there will be thread after thread of breakdowns over someone turkey not being the right size, am sure that happened last year on here.
That's part of the problem isn't it, when people set up their expectation for christmas to be all singing, all dancing, everything must be perfect and then it all goes belly up because someone finds a lump in their gravy?
I also remember saying on here last year that my mum and I got a takeaway for christmas, you would have thought that I'd put a contract out on someone's life.
Not christmas if you have a mushroom dopiaza and chips, well, it is in my world. If I had a huge family I might think differently, but my view is what is the point of sweating over a stove and we don't eat meat anyway so might as well be a takeaway dinner.
Oh I remember the threads very well, the Christmas dinner that was ruined because a whole turkey was delivered instead of the crown that was ordered
And someone else's whole Christmas was ruined because one parcel went astray , and a lot more along similar lines
So what, life happens. About five years ago I bought a very expensive organic, free range, all dancing and singing stuffed crown roast. Popped it in the oven and said to mum , turn it down in 40 mins whilst we went for a quick drink with friends. Got home to find the thermostat in the oven had gone and the turkey was a huge lump of charcoal lolol
Was dinner or Christmas ruined? Not at all. Still had the gammon and all the stuffings and sausages and the veg. One of the best Christmases we had, indeed was step dads last one
I've already posted today that my planned Christmas has gone tits up already but hey ho, the Christmas im getting is going to be great fun. So I've had to go into town today ( which was meyhem) to get extra bits and I'm having to cook the next couple of days which I hadn't planned to do but I've got more hands to help make light work of it
Enjoy your takeaway. I'd have one as well if only we lived in an area that had one0 -

I almost went into Glasgow city centre to watch a film after my spin class this morning, have walked along that part of town many times.
Awful, puts into perspective what really matters and what doesn't.0 -

Indeed. Myself and my dearest OH are both ill in bed with flu. No decorations up, no tree, only two presents bought (one each!) but we've got food in and are safe. Our Christmas will be, erm, "different" this year - having it next Saturday instead when we anticipate we'll both be better!!! No worries, the world will still turn.
Sadly, for those poor souls in Glasgow, things will be differentDFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499
