Husband despatched to Dr's, looks like he'll be signed off due to his pain, and then we're out for the dog walk to end all dog walks - 4 year old allowing LOL
On the subject of lotions and potions, I have found coconut oil to be fantastic. I developed an allergy to an ingredient in sun screens. As a blonde and fair skinned person I need sun protection. In one year I had spent over £75 on the stuff, to use it for a day, and then end up looking like id been dipped in acid. It was atrocious. Even the 'green' versions would stir it up. So I ended up making my own with coconut oil, cocoa butter and a couple of oils. I was converted, it healed the damage already done (and I wasn't lounging out in the sun either) and following it's use I never burned, or suffered a similar reaction. I even used it on my son and it worked brilliantly.
I also use coconut oil as my hair conditioner and have done away with 'conditioner'. Oh the shine! I have a pixie crop, which I'm torn between growing out (less hair trims required) or keeping short hair (less fuss/shampoo used etc).....Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
A posting from someone not from Kent and who has never been to Kent........oh actually I have been on a ferry from Dover so that's a lie. Kent, it gets around doesn't it.
I have two days to my self while DS is at nursery and DH is at work so I have and will be attacking the house. I have way too much stuff and it gets me down to be honest. Everything needs to be pared down as much as possible to get the place running more efficiently.
The only spending I will have today is a £5 trip to the barbers for DS. I used to cut it myself and the £5 spent is definitely worth it. It's his Christmas party at nursery tomorrow so he needs to look smart and handsome.

I have just realised that we may be short of posts in 2015 as we will all not be buying stuff!
Perhaps we should post, here is a list of stuff I bought last year, and have not bought this year. Could be interesting. My 2013 xmas credit card monthly statement would have been £1000 this year will be nil. I might quietly check this out as the months go by.
It is like a payrise with no extra tax to pay. Free money by not spending.
Just a thought! So far I have not missed any of the not bought stuff.0 -
Got it right there Lyn (MrsLurcherwalker). I have about 3 inches of natural brunette sprinkled with my few greys and the rest is brassy dye that I am putting up with because I don't ever want to dye again.
I cut my own hair and have done since my financial fall from grace. I learn on you tube and have been known to use DH's hair shaver on a 6 or 8 to graduate the back. I am growing it out now but will keep my fringe as I have cutting that down to a fine art. My children have never been to the hair salon. I have always trimmed their hairs. It's not something I brag about but don't mind saying here.
I keep myself natural but do still use foundation and mascara. It hasn't always been that way and is still a work in progress but as long as I am neat and tidy I am learning to love being just me. A confidence based on make up and possessions is no confidence at all in my experience. Or at least that is how I feel.
I have been wondering about the mooncup for sometime now - it's just what it's made out of that puts me off. It's something very unnatural really isn't it?
Oils for cleansing. What is the best at non drying? I used olive oil for a while but bizarrely it dried out my skin. I use Aqueous for the odd bit make up removal (and shaving, will always shave my legs and underarms, I can't not) and Pears for morning washing but I would be interested in visiting the oil route again.

I stopped dyeing my hair about 2 years ago and the colour has all grown out now. It has taken some getting used to as I am not yet 50, but so liberating not to be caught up in the cycle of hair dye and root touch up. My hair is a lot softer now also.
We are lucky here to have 5 butchers, a greengrocers an indoor market with an organic grocer and a farmers market. There are 3 independent bakers who supply the village shop too, ooh and I forgot, we have an independent supermarket a couple of villages away. So I should be sorted. I haven't had time to explore the neighbouring towns too much, but I am sure there must be shops I have yet to discover (the joys of moving to a completely new area)
I really want to wean the men folk off crisps here. OH has a packet with lunch everyday. Any suggestions?
I have used Abel and Cole in the past and their milk. It does go off quicker because it is not homogenised, i found it didn't last me the week before going off.Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0 -
Would the menfolks like homemade cheese straws/twists or cheese biscuits instead of crisps? or even a couple of cream crackers with a slice of cheese. It's trying to give something savoury without all the fat and salt isn't it?0

I stopped colouring my hair a few years ago but I don't have any grey yet. It is such a time saver as I used to spend 2 or 3 hours in the hairdressers, what a bl**dy waste of time. I barely use my blow dryer but I do keep in case I need it. I think I've only used it twice in 2014.:p
The bag of clothes have been dispatched and I feel much lighter and freer without a lot of stuff around.:)
I'm making a lovely hot vegetable and chickpea curry today and I will make some for the freezer as it's always nice to have for when I don't feel like cooking.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to completely stop the supermarket shopping. I get the kitten food and litter from there. Also, my boyfriend is a fussy eater and has the worst diet I've ever known.
He thinks because he's slim, it's not doing him any harm, and yet constantly complains of his complexion and feeling run-down. His (also slim) Dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes. I'm surprised it wasn't a wake up call.
I'm trying to think of healthy more natural and ethical ways to feed him, i.e. fresh, free-range chicken in breadcrumbs instead of frozen chicken nuggets, making my own pizzas etc. I could do with a healthier alternative for the fizzy drinks and crisps too.
I've been researching the small businesses in my local area. The best resource I've found is an organic and fine food shop which supports local suppliers, literally around the corner from my work. I plan to get all my fruit, vegetables, bread, butter, milk and eggs there in the new year, and supplement with a few bits from the supermarket.
I love this thread, I feel like an anarchist, fighting back against the commercialism, one organic spud at a time :j0 -
We are really lucky where we live, we have four farm shops closeby all of which also sell eggs.
We have two butchers (Used to be four but sadly two have gone) two local greengrocers, a market that sells fruit, veg, fish meat and bread, just wish the old Saxbys shop was still here that was fantastic for cheeses, pies, lard and sliced meatssadly bought out by an American company
We also have an independent hardware store,2 independent chemists and an independent discount shop plus a reuse centre for furniture.
As most say milk could be a problem unless you can find a local farm or independent milkman.
Cereals are neither here nor there to us
We can adapt to pancakes, scrambled eggs on toast, full English, boiled eggs, croque monsieur, fruit salad, eggy bread, sausage sarnies, bacon sarnies, egg sarnies etc
