  • How lovely for you. Is that work or going for the life style. Sorry I'm being very nosy. Aren't you brave, a new life. Don't think I could do that now at my age. But the best of luck to you and yours.

I've a box of dye in the bathroom that I haven't got round to applying for nearly a year now, I should probably just release it.

As a young girl I had pillar box red, purple, blue, pink or all those colours together hair and a lot of make up - tons of it.

That could probably go. I am currently (and have been for a good few years) not been wearing any make-up, I think I look bizarre with anything beyond mascara now. It seems to simply highlight the ageing and changes in texture rather than the converse?

I am aware that I am the least "conventionally attractive" that I have ever looked, but I like that this is no longer a source of anxiety for me - when I used to care SOOOOOO much.

I do wish my hair would just blooming go white though - I've been going grey for 21 years (exactly half my life) and it's just doing it very slowly and isn't going to get to a fab all grey or white judging by my mother.

mooncup (or equivalent) is excellent - has decreased the pain I get with periods - more or less eliminated that draggy ache I used to have all the time.

deodorants - I found "trust" was a good one - non aluminium based - doesn't stop you sweating but does stop it smelling - also washing clothes properly at a high enough temp to kill odour producing bacteria, and all my clothes have to be natural fibres (very silly skin). simple soap or coconut oil for cleansing/washing (wish I could find a cheaper source of the latter). and I have cut my long hair myself for nearly a decade, mainly because hairdressers are evil.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

I am nearly 51, i dye and i aint stopping yet :p I get the hairdresser to do it too - should i leave now? ;) I get my bits waxed (TMI??:D) my eyebrows tinted and i wear make up. So ner! :rotfl:

Fuddle - i use a blend of Almond oil, a little castor oil and a drop of tea tree. probably in the proportion of about 9/10, 1/10 and drop  It can be quite drying but i only use it at night, in the morning it's just a hot cloth and about once or twice a week i use "simple" face wash just to get rid of any residue. it seems to work quite well. DS (15) is fairly acne'd and i use a stronger castor oil blend and an extra drop or two of tea tree for him. it is slowly improving it. - DD needed "Roacutane" to get rid of hers, but until he says he wants that, i am steering him clear.

i use a crystal stick deodorant "salt of the earth" - it's great.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

It's a fresh start I am 59 and OH is 49 and we have a house out there which up to now was for holidays but over the past few years since OH was made redundant we have spent more and more time.

We are selling up here and making the move permanent soon.

We won't be rich but we will have time and that for me is priceless.

  • Nice to see you over here chrissy

Well, after 2 days of working out finances and realising I had money in the bank to cover both Dec and Jan direct debits. I had a £100 doing nothing. Where that would of been "lost" on trivial things and not so trivial (chocolate), I have ordered bulk orders of stardrops, zoflora, and washing up liquid, enough to see me through 2015. Now I'm going to see if I can squeeze a chocolate coin out of the net without anyone noticing :D

These recipes are from Tree Hugger. I'll be giving them a go!
    http://www.treehugger.com

    Homemade Deodorant

    3 tbsp coconut oil
    2 tbsp shea butter
    3 tbsp baking soda
2 tbsp cornstarch (is this the same as corn flour?)
    5 drops of essential oil
    • Use a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water and melt the oil / butter. Remove and mix in the dry ingredients and essential oil. Cool and decant.
    • Kept at room temp use 1tspn, roll into a ball with fingers and apply under-arms. Let it melt and soak in.

    No Poo Shampoo
    2tbsp baking soda
    500ml / 1 pint glass jar / jug
    2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    • Wet hair
    • Fill jar / jug with water and dissolve baking soda
    • Pour over head and scrub into hair
    • Rinse
    • Measure the cider vinegar into the same jar /jug, add water and pour over head.
    • Rinse almost immediately.
I'm really loving my greying hair - I have Mallin streaks :D Big bold white ones at the temples and then throughout the front sides. The back is still dark brown. Hence i got highlights weaved through them, they didn't touch my silver streaks :T It looks "unusual" but I'm loving it. I'm on my way to being that silver fox slowly and subtly haha.

Had a look at the talc and cancer googles and yeh it was scary reading  There's no conclusion research as yet but I can live without powdered feet from now on just in case.

I don't think I can do the No-supermarket shopping, I use Aldi, Lidl and a local butcher but we have no greengrocer, market etc. I'm also saving money like mad just now and have to be really careful about my outgoings. Think the marketeers call it "price sensitive" :p

Keep up the good work shipmates
  • Mint1955. How wonderful for you both. At least over the years you must have tried and tested every aspect of living in another country and know how it all goes. You are so right the most important things are each other and health and happiness. No amount of money can buy these things.
I hope you'll continue to participate on here when you do go and let us no how things are going for you both. I for one will feel the odd bit of envy. Lol
