Vulpix so glad to hear it more of us should say so. My DS gave up alcohol for 5 years. People just accepted it. Young people these days are so much more accepting of people not drinking.

My cancer medication says alcohol interferes with it working. I have met people who complain and ignore it. If people pay their taxes for me to have thousands of pounds a week spent on my medication I am not going to mess it up for the sake of a few drinks.

Meant to add dND & Lynplatinum, love the idea of consummables and charity type gifts. Chocolate, cakes, coffee, just lovely edibles, yum. And have received a chick and goat as charity presents - very pleased. I have only 1 friend who would appreciate charity gift.

Nursemaggie, I am with you re meds. Mine make me feel yuck enough as it is, and I am way too scared of jiggering up the whole shebang with alcohol. Really don't miss it. Glad chocolate allowed.

Weesmiler - working my way to reducing present list, without coming across as mean. Just people don't need so much tat and stuff. Stopped Christmas cards to all but immediate family and OH. Make donation to charity instead.

Keep the tips coming crew, very inspirational.

Good Morning chums, supposed to be bright and sunny today but at the moment its looking decidedly grey outside.
DD wants to tackle her garden /jungle this weekend so if the weathers not too bad then thats what we will be doing.
She is a total Eurovision nut and loves watching it and has every year since she was small back in the 1970s.I just don't get it myself but different strokes for different folks :):):) even my DGS thinks Mums a bit barking :):):)
I am trying to use up what fresh food I have in the fridge rather than bin it on Friday morning so odd meals for me for the next few days .I have got the salad mountain down quite a bit and veg wise I think I am down to a couple of carrots and half a cucumber .The potato's in my spud bag I peeled cooked and mashed last night and they went into the freezer:) I might try the mixed bean and sweet potato stew today as I have about 6 good sized sweet potato's.
I will also whizz around the house over the weekend cleaning and tidying it up as I won't be around for several days when I come out of hospital as I will be at DDs until I'm back up and buzzing around again.Enforced resting and I don't go well together I'm afraid but I don't want to undo the surgeons hard work so i'll have to bite the bullet I suppose.
Eldest DD got off OK to her caravan last night and texted to say there was no damage, despite the earthquake :)
I'm just going to have my breakfast then off on my 'morning mile'
Hopefully the sun will appear later. I'll stick a wash on before I go and hopefully get it dried and ironed this evening.
Have a good day chums and keep the purse shut against the daft shopping that seems to happen every Bank Holiday
    Cheers JackieO xxx

My car is tucked up at the back of the driveway & there it stays until everyone's on their way back upcountry on Monday. We have everything we need & I can walk to the market or up to the town if I suddenly discover that's something's vanished without trace from the fridge or cupboards. The roads down here are an absolute nightmare at holiday time, so we just stay off them!

Overnighted at brother and sister in laws. Vast amounts of the red stuff consumed, along with a Chinese carry out- very naughty but we did have a good laugh whilst putting the world to rights. Sister in law and I are going to dander up the town ( think village ) today to browse the charity shops and to look in at a shop this town is famous for. It's like an aladdins cave. Just a tiny shop front, then it kind of goes on for miles, bits been added to it over the years. All uneven floors and differing ceiling heights. Don't intend spending anything, just in for a nosey

I never touched a drop for 12 years, but fell off the wagon about 5 years ago. I like alcohol, always have done. Even when it was killing me I mourned not being able to have it. I actually love the taste. However I no longer like not being in control so I only drink when it's safe to do so, like last night, in safe company where it's not going to get out of control. If that makes sense. Working in a bar I see so many not even able to stand, let alone string a sentence, I couldn't get to that stage any more. A couple of glasses of red does me

So all in all this weekend is everything that I've not been doing since finding this thread but it's a one off and I'm going to enjoy it :)

    Morning Shipmates

Very early Morning here. Up early washing on and then off to a vantage point on the Medway to watch the start of the annual Barge race. Have just downloaded 80 pics !!!. As that was something that I had never seen before I am left wondering what else I can now take the opportunity to see. So far Ramsgate has made it to the list.
Spending wise only essentials , freezer STILL not totally empty. Have a voucher to spend by end of week and as it is for a largish sum with no minimum spend I am not going to let that one go. I have thrown out a large amount of MOCs and such like.

Jackie O Good luck with the op.

Well I've finally sat down for the evening...

I've been on the go doing bits and bobs and time seems to have escaped me.

    have done

    3 lots of washing
ironing all done and put away
    hoovered top to bottom
    Done the dishes (x2)
    cleaned bathroom
    stripped the bed
    cut the lawn
    been to the shops
    Fed me mother her lunch
    weeded the front garden
attacked 1 of 2 ants nest otherwise known as a emptying a huge planter
    Made the tea
    Made a batch of fudge

    Had a bath
    Poured a Whisky & lemonade :T

I am officially doing nothing for the next 2 days!!!

Shopping went well but did have to buy cat treats in addition to yogurts and Mayo as he's out of them and he'll hassle the life out of me if I don't have any :rotfl:

May go for a walk tomorrow or Monday if weathers ok, there's a garden nursery about 45 mins away from me that opened last year, never got round to visiting it yet.

Hope everyone has a good weekend whatever your doing!

    Hello.

    I love this thread.

I am frugal at heart but enjoy treating those I love. I have also been following the make do and mend philosophy.

My friend at work is an engineer so last week when my kettle lid wouldn't shut he opened it up and did a repair.

Also repaired a pan lid that had fallen apart.

All means I could go to alton towers... Tickets, full tank of petrol, food for 3 all day under 100 pounds...

    Lovely day had by all.

Just doing a top up shop today using checkout smart freebies and Farmfoods.

    Good evening from sunny Arras!!

I am sitting outside an idyllic gypsy style caravan, just enjoying a cup of tea although the neighbours are rather noisy!! Think chooks and wild birds. The sun is out and it is a lovely evening....

These little jaunts to "ignore" (celebrate) OH's birthday are going well and this one is a real find. The caravan has everything and more than you could wish. We arrived to be given fresh eggs, butter and milk for our stay - can't wait for breakfast in the morning, fresh croissants etc, served in a basket on the caravan steps!!

So I find it much easier to NBI when we are at home because I know it is going towards our little trips. If I fancy spending on extras, I just remind myself that it could go towards visiting somewhere else, I have so many places on my bucket list.

However... has anyone else found that they hit a bit of a barrier after about four or five weeks when the little extra treats get bought more often? I rarely buy anything else but food and I have noticed since my spending diary, I am very frugal for a month or so then have a couple of weeks where the treats are bought more and more often. Then something clicks in my head and frugal brain takes over again. I need to work out why I feel the need to "treat" us to those extras.

Have a lovely rest of the Bank Holiday,
    Pauline
