NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Hi Shipmates
Not been posting much as still feeling very yuk from Gent treatment for my Menieres. But, wanted to post that my hubby has been doing the shopping weekly and this week he managed to keep under our budget of £50 per week, well done that man!!! Other weeks he was slightly over and one week very much over buying all and sundry. But, this week he took £50 cash with so he was more careful with our budget!! Obviously having a certain amount of cash stopped him going over budget.
Not many spends for us this month expect a new battery for my lap top and some compost for the garden. So have managed to put some by for finishing the house. Things like carpets which take a bit of saving for as we want to buy carpets that will last!!
Hope everyone is enjoying Bank Holiday week!!
Take care all!!
Hope you are ok JackieO. Been thinking of you!!!

Just wanted to say hi to Edwink, as I also have Menieres.
Fortunately, I haven't had any vertigo since 1st August last year, so I appear to be in a period of remission at present.
I seem to be able to keep the worst symptoms at bay by diet and lifestyle, and don't take any prescribed medication although I do follow a regime of vitamins and supplements. I have a slight hearing loss and mild tinnitus, which I barely notice.
I've been very lucky, although I'm not complacent as I know it's unpredictable and it could come back at any time.
Hope the Gent works for you:)Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi Goldiegirl
Thank you for your post and for saying Hi!!
For me Menieres has been quite severe!! I have had it for 3 years now and have lost all of my hearing in my left ear and have slight hearing loss in my right ear!! I have loud Tinnitus in my deaf ear and low sounding Tinnitus in my right.! I had the Gent treatment 3 weeks ago. It took 10 days to take effect so right in the middle of the treatment now!! I do have double vision most of the time but am learning to focus again bit by bit. My balance mechanism will gradually learn to take over from the left hand side which is in the process of being destroyed. Hard work but I will get there!!
I am glad that your Menieres is ok for you at the moment. Some find that it can take years and years to resurface if it ever does at all!!!
Nice of you to introduce yourself as a fellow sufferer!! Not good being on a boat with Menieres is it??? JOKE!!! Anyway at the moment I am having to spend a lot of time below deck but when I am back on my feet again I shall be up on deck with my shipmates sailing to calmer waters!!
Hope all that grow their own veg are getting their plants in ready for the summer season. And don't forget the "cut and come again" lettuces for those of you with little space to grow your salad!! Our veg is now in thanks to my hubby. Still have cucumbers to go in the greenhouse and some courgettes and the cape gooseberries to go outside then we have finished planting out for this year!! We are looking forward to digging up the new potatoes when they are ready soon.
Little Langley and the others are all doing fine and flicking soil all over the place whilst dust bathing. This year before my op we put turf under all of our fruit trees in a circular shape and anchored down some chicken wire to the ground. We made the chicken wire in to a dome shape around the tree bases. Now the grass has grown the girls have fresh grass to nibble on every day that they can not scratch to bits. HOORAH!!! Nice to see more green in the garden too because before we laid the bits of turf under the trees any bit of greenery got eaten or demolished. Good for them I say!!! Spoilt and free-range produce the best eggs ever and healthy happy hens and ducks!!
Hope everyone is having a good week!!

Hi chums well I'm off for my op. today so I will be offline for a few days but I will be thinking of you all as you bob about on, hopefully calmer waters. NBI for me thats for sure unless I splash out on a newspaper while in hospital I have packed a couple of library books to keep me going I am a great devourer of books and as I can't knit for awhile it will be reading for me for a few days The newspaper will be for the crossword mainly Got to keep the little grey cells working:)
Hope you all manage to hang on to your cash. I have left over cash to be banked when I'm up and about again.I will probably stay at DDs for a few days afterwards as well. so I may be gone for a week at least. But I will think of you all and what you are getting up to.
See you all soon

Good luck Jackie O ! Do what I did the last few times I was in hospital. I pretend I am on holiday and just get a free operation while I am there. The nurses thought it was a great idea and made me less nervous and I think I recovered easier. Hope all goes well for you.0

Good luck with the op Jackie O.
Just been paid my first full month and plan to move half of it to a savings account. However, this morning on discovering that my depleted account suddenly has something in it, my mind temporarily ran away with itself, compiling a list of what I could buy and how to spend it. Its not going to happen because apart from buying a couple of bits of work wear I ain't going there again. Gone down the endless road of consumption before and regret it.
Would anyone know how to prevent bars of soap from cracking? Main culprit for doing this is Imp Leather. I use ridged dishes that drain so that the bar doesn't sit in any pools of water, but still find after a couple of weeks or sometimes earlier, it develops cracks and then breaks into pieces. I'm sure I didn't have this problem years ago.
Have a good weekend everyone.0 -

Believe it or not, my favourite type of holiday is going on cruise ships, so at first I was concerned that the Menieres was going to be a problem. But so far, touch wood, it's been ok, and they cater for my diet as well, which is fantastic.
I expect you'll have rehab exercises to retrain you balance system. I hope this works for you and you can get on with your life again, as it can be so debilitating.
I don't know anyone in real life with Menieres, so when I see someone on MSE with it always say hello.
Jackie, hope all is going well for youEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I have not been around as I have been to Hastings for my son's birthday (he was 29 - when did that happen??) sensible boy asked for bits from the local Chinese supermarket for his birthday as down there he cannot get the quality of ingredients at the right price!! NBI in a way as it was not buying silly disposable gifts or one that would have been forgotten soon!!
Well NBI wise dont know if I have told you all about my new kitchen shelf??? The old 'fitted' cupboards were falling off the wall and unrepairable. Last year I worked very hard and saved £3,000 for a new kitchen. Then I broke my leg and unable to work for 6 months that money got used up (I earned from my houses £25 per month too much to get any benefit and self employed insurance would not cough up!!). So kitchen still looked like rubbish! then I had a brainwave, take down the cupboards. Use the doors to replace the falling apart kitchen drawers and put up a large shelf to give some of the storage that the cupboards previously did. A friend of my son's (ex- Royal Engineers so he is v good at such stuff) volunteered to make shelf and put it up and do the new cupboard. his payment was dinner and a cake!!! He got the wood from someone who makes coffins and so can order wood in bulk so it was cheap!!! so I got the whole lot job done for £10. :j:j U am just so lucky!! But the lad says he remembers how much I did for him as a teenager! Bless him. All very NBI!
Next job is to replace glass pains in a door!
Glad you are slowly getting back on track Edwink!

Brilliant Lynplatinum, my wall cupboards are in a similar state so perhaps a good shelf is the way to go for me too0

Evening everyone
Need to go back into the routine of reading and writing here but had been to busy in May with my new job and loads of other things going on.
Spending whise May was quite a good month, didn't spent too much on food and the spendings for other stuff have mainly been plants for the balcony and some flower pots. I had loads of flower pots but most of them didn't survived last summer as some feline housemates threw them down from the balcony rail... So I invested in some metal pots from IKE@ and hope they won't find a way to destroy them... You never know...
Oh and bought a pair of shoes, but I hope they're good quality and will last me a long time.
I think my new job really helps getting me out of shops. In my old job I passed the High Street on my way home each day and it was just soo tempting to go into a shop here and there. Now I it is a detour and I only go to the shops if I need something.
Will go over my bookshelf and the box of books in the basement tomorrow as our local library is organizing a book exchange in two weeks. They do that each year and it is amazing. You can bring books you no longer need and take as many books back home as you want. It is a really great opportuntity to get nice books and if I don't like on I hadn't spent money on it and will just bring it to the book exchance next year...Good luck Jackie O ! Do what I did the last few times I was in hospital. I pretend I am on holiday and just get a free operation while I am there. The nurses thought it was a great idea and made me less nervous and I think I recovered easier. Hope all goes well for you.
I was awfully affraid of dentists and postponed fixing an appointment to fix a broken teeth for more than a year. Then I read a biography of someone I admire and read that she had a serious car accident and doctors doubted that she would ever walk again but she made a full recovery. I don't know why but that changed my mindset about the dentist appointment. So I told myself if she went through all of that I would for sure also survive a dentist appointment. The next day I called the dental clinc.... I needed four appointments as it wasn't only the broken teeth, but everything went just fine. Once or twice I had a flush of panic but just told myself "think of what she had to go through and this will be a piece of cake."
Have a nice evening everyone!
Will catch up on the tread tomorrow.Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /
