Get well soon edwink and that's great news for you JackieO!

Not much going on for me today - been invited to OH's work colleague's wedding reception but it will require an overnight stay so I'm trying to get him to have a think about how much we NEED to go as it will be over £100 once the B&B cost and drinks are factored in.

A book I have been looking forward to reading is available for collection at the library so will go and collect that today, and then head to Virgin Lounge for a free brew and to finish my current book.

Had my free Waitrose coffee this morning on the way to work, very welcome in this weather.

Was up at 6.30am this morning as usual but managed to find time to make a sweet potato and mixed bean stew so that's now in the fridge, much better than making it tonight as now it has all day for the flavour to develop. Will serve with some microwaveable rice that we stock up on when it's cheap for last minute dinners. Lunch and snacks already made so hopefully no spending today.

Still dreaming of my holiday although the dream has now progressed into wanting to get the mortgage paid off so we can save to move there when we retire (30 years away yet!).

Have good NBI days all! x

That sounds nice, I have several sweet potato's to use up any chance of the recipe.Just back from my 'morning mile ' and although a bit blowy at least its dry.Washing blowing away on the line .I heard this commotion over the back and a cat was sitting by the chimney stack on a neighbours roof and was being dive bombed by crows !!! 5 crows against one moggie .The cat looked terrified :):):)Looked as though the birds had retaliated for a change;)

I based it on this one but to be honest I just chucked whatever I had in! http://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/spicy-bean-and-sweet-potato-stew.html

    Fantastic news there Jackie

Vulpix I'm in NI. Might as well be a foriegn country lol. So completely different from what I was used too. Love it so much. Kind of like England back in the 70's. Very community orientated. Most people still live where they were born, just around the corner from mummy usually. But we were welcomed and it's like we have lived here forever

The weather here is still bad so not got into the garden to weed yet, and tbh I'm needing to rest up Colleague is back in work so back to normal shifts which means just Thursday and Sunday left to do this week. Going to travel down and stay with BIL Friday night as hubby is going to be doing some tiling for him on Saturday. And Saturday will be stopping off at a new resturaunt for tea on the way home - purely research of course :) it's in the next village and the menu looks delish. Still the one I work in just got a certificate of excellence from TA, so we aren't doing too bad

Gonna have to stop this baking malarky, ended up making a dozen muffins yesterday and 3 dozen cookies today, and found the freezers are full to bursting, gonna get fat lol

Still a simple dinner of chicken salad tonight so perhaps a cookie for dessert won't be so bad :)

    Take care everyone xx

Spent today but on cheap bulk cherry tomatoes from market stall. Have cut them into two, sprinkled with salt, pepper & dried oregano to make herby oven dried tomatoes which have been oven dried on low oven until partly dried & covsred with olive oil in jars. Now have a generous supply in fridge which would have cost a fortune if bought from a delicatessen counter.

Suki1964.....glad you like it in NI. We are an odd lot, but in a friendly way. Lol at everyone living close to where they were born and near their Mum. NI mothers are renound for fussing over their children irrespective of the age. And for cooking and feeding people too.

Am still reading through posts....and looking at other links etc shipmates have recommended. Love the project 333, Be more with less & Minimalism sites.

Now that I think about it, have ALWAYS had a 'problem' with not wanting to have too much stuff and clutter. When OH moved in around 20 years ago, he brought with him magazines from 1990 etc. WHAT???. Bit by bit, I recycled them....and he has yet to ask me where they are . If in doubt, throw it out is my motto.....within reason.

NSI is making me really think.......I have more than enough of everything. Makeup tub consists of 6 items. At least 6 bottles of perfume to work my way through. Work clothes no longer required. TV, radio, books (not many as recycle). This thread has opened my eyes to how much we are 'programmed' by advertising, society, culture, ? Envy, ? Self esteem, ? Self reward.....into buying stuff. More, more, more. Less is more is my way to go. No doubt there will be storms at sea along the way, but the good shipmates here will help weather the rough waves.

Any ideas on how to get close family on board re NBI presents for birthdays, Christmas etc? They mean well, and LOVE doing it......but I don't need stuff. Does that sound ungrateful?

    Toodle pip shipmates.

    Evening all

Well it's payday tomorrow, have only saved £50 this month but I've paid for my winter coat ie cleared it off my credit card before they charge interest.

I also paid my full years council tax bill in one go. Wasn't planning on paying it like that but there was a problem with the direct debit and didn't collect so I just decided to pay it all as I can't be bothered with the faff of trying to sort it out again (had same problem last year)

Food wise, I only want yogurts and a jar of mayonnaise this week so bill will be £3 :rotfl: still have a living salad on the go, bread, fruit & veg in the freezer as well as tinned stuff in the cupboard! Will nip to Aldi 1st thing sat morning to get them before mum comes for lunch.

    Ahoy there shipmates

I had nt gone overboard - me internet was playing up so couldn't get on me comfy fireside laptop!!

pm2326 - thanks for dietry advice
Jackie O - so glad your op is finally happening - hope all goes well and that once you are out and relatively fit we will see you on here again
agnes jr - I ask all folk to give me 'consumable' presents - such as bubble baths; posh teas and coffees; special biscuits that I would not usually buy; choccy (obviously!!); interesting herbs and spices. this means I rarely buy bubble bath and usually have packs of great biscuits in when people come to call (a treat that is shared means far more!). When one of my boys was in well paid work (unfortunately it made him very ill so he had to quit - but was working elsewhere within a month) he bought me tickets to a show that I wanted to see. Perhaps ask for a trip somewhere (I like Nat Trust houses but some folk like lakes or seaside (me too but I am far away from these and neither son can drive!)

Interesting - if we all are all NBI - then what do we GIVE as presents??? Your stories/suggestions - fellow NBI sailors???
